Sad news for the staff.

CLUB Med, one of the world's most famous luxury holiday chains, is quitting Australia because of the downturn in global tourism. The franchise will close its Lindeman Island resort from January 31 next year.
The Queensland Government was told of the shock decision yesterday.
About 25 local staff will lose their jobs and the decision to shut down operations is a bitter blow to Queensland's tourism industry which will lose one of the iconic hotel organisations from its ranks.

Wow, that's disappointing. Stayed there a couple of months' ago and had a great time - they had a great crew onboard. I figured the reason for the delayed refurb was they were evaluating their options, but you never really think they'll just shut up shop entirely.

At least I can say I got to experience it here...
