No Dreamliner for me

It's also worth noting, that even though I am in 'first' for the Delta flight, I am not entitled to complimentary access to the Sky Club at LAX.

If you have an Amex Plat charge card you get access to Delta Sky Clubs. If you have Skyteam lounge access as an elite you only get access if your onward flight is international which rules out LAX/MSP.

Tried again this morning. Met with a flat no. There are no award flights in F on my flight so cancelling and rebooking wasn't an option. Was told to email customer care.

To be fair it has only been possible for the last ~18 months or so.

Damn I missed that change, great to know I can request upgrade award Y. Guess it must be a max points like discount Y to PE.

I suspect that the B787 will not be worth it: too few WCs, far fewer staff (according to reliable sources) the ability of FAs to black out you window at any time and not let you be in control (and the dimmed but not opaque window casts a funereal gloom over the cabin); no F. The myth of less jet lag... The only im provement is direct aisle access for all (i.e. the modern standard for J for several years, QF only just catching up). I would try to get the A380 and make the most of it while you can.

I agree with most of this - specially the lav issue, staffing and the windows. I do like the 787 and have been on a bunch of 789's over the past few weeks, but the windows are just... a gimmick that just doesn't quite work.

I actually took a picture the other week of the "darkened" cabin on a UA flight(don't judge) as the a/c was banking so the sun was full on coming in and basically the cabin is pretty light and it can even be a little blinding!

I do personally feel the higher cabin pressure/humidity(whatever it is exactly) does have a positive effect as I generally feel better getting off a MEL/SYD-LAX flight on a 787 vs the 380 or 744. Not by a huge amount but I have noticed it. That's very subjective though and everyone will feel that sort of thing differently.

The all aisle access is huge though and the J suite beats the droopbed very well, so there is that on flights that I think QF basically hopes most people will sleep more than they will do much else :)
