I have just been looking for some flight options to Rockhampton later this month out of Brisbane and I noticed that the Premium Economy seating is available up to and including the 17th of January. I know that the new DJ Business class starts on the 18th but there is no Business class or Premium Economy for sale from the 18th January onwards from BNE to ROK or vice versa. I have searched through until March and there is nothing but saver and flexi fares advertised. I checked aircraft types in case it had become an ATR only port but they are all still E-jets or 737's. Does anyone know if this is to become the norm or have DJ not yet worked out their price point for business class into Rocky (hard to believe this close to launch). If its to become the norm then one would assume it will be a lottery for the upgrades on each flight.:?::confused:

From the 18th jan, the following ports are economy class only -

Albury
Ballina
broome
Coffs harbour
Emerald
Gladstone
hervey bay
Karratha
launceston
Maroochydore
Mildura
Newman
port hedland
port macquarie
Proserpine
Rockhampton

Thanks for that jaspon, I was unaware of this. I can see it won't be an issue at the ports that are serviced exclusively by the 1 class ATR's but I wonder how they will allocate seating on full flights when there are J seats on a jet service.

To me, ideally!

Or they will just lock off the first two rows and call the flight 'full', 8 seats less than they used to. ;) doesnt QF fly around with empty J seats and refuse FF's points upgrades and op-ups much to the annoyance of QF pax? Isnt the head of Virgin from QF?

My guess is that there'll be a portion of the DJ 73G/73H/E190 fleet that doesn't get refitted with a J cabin (or at least, not initially) -- again, guessing, but those planes would then have an all-whY seating configuration for the routes not getting a J service.

I had noticed this for MCY.Certainly when i flew down on 31/12 it was a reconfigured plane.mrsdrron has a flight on the 17th and was able to get 3C with rows 1,2 showing up as unavailable which certaionly suggests a reconfigured plane then.
So what happens from 18/1.Time for a VA rep to step up to the plate.Or are VA already going down the "enhancement"pathway.
Certainly if MCY is going to have an ATR or "old"plane service I will be switching back to JQ.

It wouldn't offer much aircraft flexibility for Virgin if they left some 737s/E190s without a Business Class cabin - It would mean they wouldn't be able to move them around to meet demand on other routes etc. Hence, I doubt that will be the case.

+1. I imagine that they will have enough planes converted by January 18 to run business class for the routes that offer business class, which would buy them time to properly convert the remainder of the fleet. I hear they've done the absolute bare minimum to offer business class on quite a few planes (i.e. putting business seats in for rows 1 and 2, bulkheads, and replacing row 3 to suit, leaving the rest of the fleet as-is).
