Found out today no booze served before 11am in the sydney lounge..! Was pretty sure it was 5pm somewhere in the world at that time..

Flew to Perth in J, old seats, coughpy old school 15 channel entertainment system on loop, Have flown that leg a few times before and thats the first time I've flown an old craft.. how do i check which plane they are using before hand? just assumed same planes for the same routes...

thanks!

Looks like XFB made the trek from SYD just after 11 (a bit late at that).

Was one of the ex-Emirates aircraft (XFB).

Not sure if there is a sure fire way of knowing which plane you will get prior to booking.

I think serfty posted that you could get as far as seeing a seat map before having to commit to the booking, and I just checked it and it is so (not that I doubted it :))

If there are 24 seats available in J it is a new config plane, if there are 27 seats (2-3-2 in a few rows) then it is old config. Of course subs can and do happen, so you're never guaranteed. I've had subs from new to old a couple of times, in fact I've never managed a new config a/c on the transcon.

As for the bar, I think QF doesn't open till midday, and not that long ago it was 2PM, so 11AM is not too bad. :)

yeah i did notice the weird 2-3-2 config and wondered about it. just checked, luckily the return flight is a 2-2-2 config...

Just remember, by default the seat map shows 2-2-2 until they make their final shuffling around 3-4 days out. Also, if you get a 2-2-2 might be worth avoiding 1A as the IFE in VH-XFE is buggered
