Could someone recommend me the best Starwood property in Paris please?

As close as possible to Opera Garnier would be great. Thank you!

Starwood options in Paris are relatively limited; iirc, there are only 4 in the central area.

I can only comment on the Westin, which fits the bill perfectly in terms of location. Being on Rue de Castiglione, if you walk up the street through the Place Vendome (where the Ritz is located), you arrive at the Avenue de l'Opera.

The hotel itself is more of a Luxury Collection in style rather than a Westin, with small rooms which feel old, but have been recently renovated. Service can be patchy, ranging from excellent to terrible. I've only stayed there as a platinum, and have had full recognition of benefits including suite upgrade. There used to be a lounge, but discussion over at FT suggests this is now closed.

There are 2 hotels around the Champs Elysee (close-ish), with the 4th at Montparnasse (well out of the way).

LM Etoille is very nice - reasonably close to Champs Elysee. Quite modern and lounge access for Plats, with a decent breakfast.

Probably the nicest LM I've stayed at.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Thanks very much Hawkeye and Febs!

Sounds like LM Etoile or Westin for me then. Now that I've got them narrowed down with your help, I'll look at the Starwood site and see if I can decide between the two.

Any other opinion that would swing my decision one way or the other would be most welcome too.

Commuter,

The Westin is right in the middle of the most expensive section of Paris but a very enjoyable stay.If you want a cheaper breakfast you will find it after about 6-7 minutes walk. Do not expect a suite upgrade if you are Platinum as these have been relabelled "Non Standard Suites" . They would rather keep them vacant and sell them to the Middle Eastern clients who arrive off late evening flights and suddenly want a large number of suites for an entire entourage. They, according to the GM, do not blink at paying Rack Rate of 4000 EURO/night and tip very very well;)

Thanks Superchris. I am statusless with SPG so unfortunately no upgrade for me anyway, but thank you for the info on upgrades and breakfasts.

Was there anything of paticular note that was nice with Westin? Trying to make my mind up about whether I want to pay extra for Westin or stick to LM Etoile.

From my perspective, the Westin itself is nothing special. It's location is certainly top-notch.

If you are happy with the LM's location, then I would go with it, particularly if you save a bit in the process.

Hi Commuter,
This site may be helpful....tripadvisor .com...Regards+ Merry Xmas, M.P.:D

Thanks Hawkeye and Masonic Phantom.

I've booked the LM Etoile now, mainly because they had a dirt cheap offer of EUR 179 including breakfast.

Especially after the comment that 'Westin in itself was nothing special', at over double the price, I couldn't quite justify it especially when all I will be doing would be to go out early (shopping!) and come back late (shopping & ballet). More to spend on shopping now :D
