Next Qantas CEO: Vanessa Hudson

I'm sorry but I just don't see this happening. There's been a lot of speculation and rumours surrounding the eventual demise of Uncle Alan and all of these promulgations have been proven inaccurate time and time again. Unless and until I see Uncle Alan not listed as the CEO of Qantas, I remain skeptical of all of this.

And even if we assume that Uncle Alan does indeed retire this November as some articles seem to suggest, who takes over and will it necessarily lead to be an experience? Change is not always for the better, I can tell you that as a United Premier member who experienced their program getting enhanced under Scott Kirby the pink creature who sucked all value from the MileagePlus (now known as DollarsPlus) program for us ex-pats. Some enhancements to look forward to under new management:
  • Introduction of dynamic award pricing or worse still NZ like Airpoints frequent flyer currency
  • Moving from status points to $$$ spent to determine elite status - you can kiss tiers points away!
  • Elimination of the (now a tradition) double status credits promotion

This is not a rumour. This a public announcement by Qantas to the media and to shareholders via the ASX.

What are status points and tiers points?
They are what qualify you for Pristine Silver, Super Gold and World Platinum apparently.....

but seriously it would not be a shock if/when QFF to a more revenue based model as the US majors have gone more or less. It wouldn't surprise if thoughts on this have been on the table or in the works for some time.

Though, of course, QF is usually more a follower than a leader - one would watch for whatever VA does or doesn't do for cues as QF probably wouldn't want to go with radical changes if their main competition (such as it is) won't.. but of course time will tell.

I certainly wouldn't link something like this directly to a new CEO though - specially one coming from within the existing ranks.

One of the good things about the SC system is that it provides some cushion against yield fluctuations that are inevitable for all airlines at various points in the economic cycle.

At the moment we're in a very high yield environment, so the revenue-based programs are minting more and more top-tier elites than would normally have been expected, SQ being a good example.

On the other hand, when the global economy inevitably goes through a downturn, SC-based programs will be less likely to encounter a sharp collapse in status passengers as yields soften.

The underlying reality is that someone who has been travelling from Sydney to London four times a year at an average of $7k per ticket over the last decade hasn't necessarily become more loyal or locked in to the program overnight when it is market forces have pushed up the price of said fares to $13k.

The SC system provides quite a lot of flexibility across the cycle, particularly in an era of stubbornly high inflation.

With the number of new planes to be delivered and yet to be ordered (30 x A330 replacements) and no old aircraft to write down in value (AJ did that very well due to Covid) she is going to find it hard to hit targets and bonus payments

As a Qantas shareholder I am bemused by comments about the company being run for the benefit of the shareholders.
Apart from company directors being responsible to shareholders, they also have other responsibilities to customers, the public, and governments. This can be a difficult balancing act. Everyone will have their own opinion as to how Qantas has managed.
As a shareholder I would point out that we have not had any dividends from Qantas since September 2019. :(

Do you know the coughulative return after divis, for a non taxpayer, by any chance? 😊
