:) Hi all.....we are off to UK via Singapore, on BA from Sydney on a sunday in november....leaving at 1.50pm from Canberra on QF1422 flight....it takes about an hour to get to Sydney,...

....and we then have to change terminals to get the BA flight thru to Sing/UK..this flight leaves at 4.20pm...seems we have under 1 1/2 hrs to
make the BA flight... hope we do bot have to pic up luggage and it goes straight thru....

seems tight to us....so we rang the TA, who informs us this is stadard timing, and also it will cost us $800 to change to an earlier flight from Canberra...

should we be panicking..gulp!!........thanks for any input....

sincerely
Sandy

BA codeshare on your Canberra Sydney Leg ( its called BA7490 that connects with BA16). Provided it is all on the one ticket you SHOULD be protected ( i.e. QF/BA staff should rebook you onto another carrier etc if the CBR SYD is delayed. Your luggage will be through checked, so all you need to do is get the QF transfer bus from the Dom terminal to the Int. Its a bit tight but i wouldn't be too worried about it.

Hi Sandy,
Your luggage should be checked straight through at Canberra.
I believe the Minimum Connection Time at Sydney for Dom to Int is 60 minutes so technically your connection is ok.
I however wouldn't feel comfortable with that short a connection time.
If it's all booked in one ticket you will be protected in case of a misconnect but that doesn't really help you if you miss the BA flight and they can't get you on another until the next day.

I would ring your TA back and get them to double check if anything can be done without the $800 fee.

I would also suggest considering getting to the airport early and asking politely if they can change you to an earlier flight as you check in. I have found that they will do this if space is available :)

Happy Flying :)

Thanks for that quick answer BAM71.... yes, we are all booked on the one ticket....so here's hoping all goes smoothly.....

cheers...

Thanks for all the input....much appreciated.....we were told as it was a code share deal at a cheaper price...we would indeed have to pay the extra to change....

....so we shall get to the airport very early and hope someone will take pity on us in regards to getting an earlier canb/syd flight.... if they have room... also we tried ringing BA and just get continual round and round the message bank on their phone number.....

Just an update..... the TA tells us if we change any of the flights on our ticket, we cancel the WHOLE ticket... but we will still get to airport several hours
early and do our best for an earlier flight......wish us luck.....

cheers

Yes just go early to the airport and get your bags checked through. Ask sweetly about an earlier flight at the airport.

The good news is that the QF flt out of CBR is on time. Best of luck, but I think you'll be OK.

UPDATE..... Qantas canberra to sydney....BA syd to London....on one ticket.....

due to a recent (but mended) broken leg, and the continuing foot/ankle problems, my Dr has given me a letter stating impaired mobility...that is I am fairly slow getting around still... and we only have just over an hour to get from domestic terminal to international terminal/check in etc.. and security...

.....do you think this letter will help in our quest for
an earlier flight without having to pay the HUGE change fees on our "one ticket" flights with Qantas and BA thru the TA....or should I just hope the letter helps at the check in
on the day, if we arrive EXTRA early and throw ourselves on the mercy of the Qantas staff for an earlier flight if available.....

if we do get an earlier flight, will this cancel our whole ticket, as the TA tells us....

cheers

I'd be very careful presenting a medical issue to an airline before you are about to check in for a long haul flight.
If the TA cannot change it, I'd do as Ansett suggests and ask nicely at QF Canberra. I don't think getting on an earlier flight will cancel any part of your ticket as long as its processed properly by QF staff. What cancels a ticket is being a no-show on the first sector.

I'd be at the airport in Canberra early and ask at check in counter if there's an earlier flight. Don't use the kiosks... That makes it harder for them to change and avoid checking your bags in until the people at the counter have looked after you.

QF have an incentive to move you to an earlier flight to make the transfer in Sydney easier.

Your ticket won't be cancelled if you take an earlier flight. I think that might just be a case if crossed wires between you and the TA.

If they can't change your flight make sure you ask for a wheelchair. You may not necessarily feel you need it, but it means the airlines know where you are during the transit in Sydney. And you'll be fine making the flight.

I do the CBR-SYD thing with the change of terminals all the time. You will have time.
