Is it better to fly into and out of Kennedy (JFK) or Laguardia (LGA)?

Which has the cheaper taxi fare to Manhattan? Which has the better AA Lounge?

Am planning to fly Chicago to New York to Miami on AA in First.

thanks

Without a doubt the JFK F/L is better than the JFK & LGA A/C's. As you are a QF WP you have access.

I'll leave to those with more NYC experience for the other questions ...

(of course ORD has one of AA's three USA F/L's as well)

If I get I choice I alwasy opt for LGA. Closer to Manhattan, smaller and easier to get around and cheaper cab ride of course. I can't comment on the lounges there, never bothered looking.

Can you get to the JFK First Lounge if flying domestic AA to MIA?

Is there a liquids ban given that JFK is an international airport?

I just had a quick look and JFK is 30-60mins $45 flat fee plus tip by taxi. LGA is $16-26 and closer.

Do you think I should spend the extra $$$ for JFK???

Only you can answer that. The JFK F/L is similar to a small version of SYD T3 QP with a far better F&B offering.

Note that there are some construction issues with LGA at the moment:

(In June I'll be departing from LGA for ORD, I would have preferred to use JFK but the flight times simply did not suit).

I would choose LGA without a doubt since LGA has so many more services to ORD than JFK, that if there is a problem, you will likely be much less affected at LGA

There are only 2 services a day from JFk-ORD which have a 1st class cabin plus one regional jet service whilst there are services approximately hourly ex LGA

I like LGA as an airport. Pretty compact and the Lounge is ok. It is a compact airport though.

JFK is much bigger and has more options. The thing I like about JFK is you can catch the Subway/Airtrain to JFK pretty cheaply.

I think you've read the wrong price for the LGA taxi - that rate is an approximation of LGA-JFK I believe. I think (but can't remember definately) that a cab from LGA to Manhattan is around $40. It's not flat fare like the ones from JFK to Manhattan.

I tend to fly into LGA and out of JFK. The cheap and easy and quick cab fare to the city is great on arrival but the lounge is nicer on the way out. I also get a town car (like a Hire Car taxi thing we have here) to JFK which makes the ride out easier. I hate catching a cab out of the city on a Friday...

Your main limit is going to be flight availability/convenience I would think rather than preferred airport choices...

Yes - domestic and international arrivals are all mixed from the AA terminal. The international AC and FL are closer to security - although they will encourage you to go to the A/C nearer your gate (in the remote part of the terminal) they won't stop you from using the FL.

Yes.

Another vote for LGA. Small and compact means a lot less walking - curbside to gate in less than 20 minutes. Quicker taxi ride to/from Manhattan. The lounges aren't as nice as JFK but turn up closer to departure and it wouldn't be an issue anyway.

The last time I flew out of LGA I went on US Scareways, and I chose to forgo the dreary US Club for the food court.

Besides, some of the ORD-JFK are operated by the little American Eagle planes without A. Higher frequencies by AA mainline into LGA. Both LGA and JFK have similar mainline frequencies to MIA.
