I'm not in the least bit interested in these kiosks - so long as there remains a manned checkin desk I'll be happy.

I did checkin a few weeks ago. Flying J and had hand luggage, so just swipped my VA card and out poped a voucher. Hung around for a min, and Y pax were easily checking in on the auto terminals, so seems to be working well. A fair few VA (Aerocare) staff on site to help pax.

It's a great spacious terminal, reminds me of HKG

Although it did get pushed to it's limits with 4 full A330's taking off at midnight a couple of weeks ago.

Lounge : It's good to now have windows in the lounge, the old lounge had frosting over them.

Coffee is good in the lounge, and a Latte comes in a Duralex glass. Which is odd for Perth, (or anywhere outside inner Melbourne).

TIP: If you've got a extra 10 mins, and you're going to the city / St Georges Tce area , then the 380 Bus is excellent, takes about 10mins more than a taxi, yet only costs about $6 from memory. Leaves every 20mins both directions. Bus Route 380 Timetable

Has anyone tried the new air-conditioned airside walkway between T2 and T1 yet?

This is the doors at the T2 end. I keep forgetting to try and figure out where the T1 end of it is. I suspect it is near the lounge.

Thoughts on the new terminal: It's ok.

The pickup/drop off zone for cars is a nightmare. I thought the other setup was bad where QF and VA were sharing, but this is terrible. There's a set of lights that's more overly zealous than a parking meter inspector trying to make monthly quotas, a feed-in lane from the bus drop off immediately before said lights and a moveable sign that says 'more pickup drop off bays 150m ahead' that you can't read from the pax pickup area, only inbound in the car.

The parking warden mentioned they were going to be building a multi-deck car park and moving it to there, but i'm sure that'll be a cluster too.

They missed a golden opportunity to make the entire terminal (including international) two storey like MEL or SYD is. The terminal ceiling is high enough, and the international has an upper floor already. I'm not sure if it's going to eventually be a part of the master plan, but if it's not, it's a gigantic fail.

The terminal itself is OK. The check-in feels pokey and clinical, but I rarely travel with checked bags. The lounge had a decidedly CBR feel to it somehow, but at least it's now meeting the other lounge standards (although what's with the infrared/inductive sandwich toasters? Can't get anything to brown up in 'em).

It's a good improvement, but can't help they're going to out-grow the terminal very very quickly.

When I had a uber drop me off at T1 domestic last week he dropped me off just past the T1 international entrance as it was crazy and not possible to stop anywhere sooner.

I decided from this point forward I will always use the T2 pickup/drop off.

Just yesterday landed back into T1 domestic and got picked up from the T2 pickup. Was a short walk and barely any vehicle activity there. I think I counted 3 sets of lights in the loop around T1 previously. I will be using T2 drop off/pick up zone for all my flights at T1 in the future. Getting out of the airport was a breeze from T2 also

I haven't yet figured out which Long Term car park is ideal yet...
I am going to try K next time. J and H is near impossible to get anywhere near the bus stops so by the time you find/walk from your park to the transfer bus in H or J you might as well have been in K.

Fun fact, Long Term K is particularly good if you want to save a few bucks. Regularly you'll find that they just leave the gates up at K so you can drive out without paying as contractors and staff park there. It also seems to be the ones that have the most technical faults on their machines so well worth parking there as you might save a few dollars in the process

What's your thoughts on the number plate scanning and this approach?

I'm incredibly unlucky... I can imagine years later a glitch in the system where I can't leave without paying for years worth of parking from the first time I went in and didn't pay leaving...

Lets just say, I know a few things about their parking management system from some very well placed sources and the things a dud, its broken more often than not hence why they just leave the gates up instead. The scanning of license plates regularly fails, last time I went and used the international/T1 Dom Short term carpark, it prints "license plate: N/A" on it which suggests that they are there for show or they dont work that often.

I think my recommendation to you would be to have a look at the ticket when you go to leave, if the gates up and they haven't captured your license plate (just on the off chance it does work and reads it), then you're in the clear not to pay.
