Anyone know more about how the new Virgin check-in is going to work when Perth's new terminal opens?

I have my first flight through the new terminal the day after it opens on November 23, so I can report back then.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I registered for the trial and have just been confirmed as a participant, so I may see some of you there on Saturday...

Looking forward to the updates here.
I regularly pass pass through Perth and will be interesting to see the changes

(in saying that, the extension to Melbourne airport has set the bar quite high)

So... are ALL VA flights now coming into terminal 1/2??

My previous VA flights were from terminal 2 but judging from the lay out I figured the A330's went to the other side - terminal 3.
Now coming in on an A330 in Jan - will I be landing at this terminal or on the terminal 3 side?

Edit: makes a difference where I pick the car up from.

From November 22 VA flights will be departing from the terminals on the eastern side of the airport, off Horrie Miller Drive.

This is the breakdown of where flights will be leaving from:

  • T1 Domestic = VA0200 – VA2499 (excluding VA1900 – VA1999)
  • T1 International = VA0050 – VA0199, VA1900 – VA1999
  • T2 = VA2500 – VA2999, VA9020 – VA9499

Hey NZGirl, it looks like they are lining it up for all VA Interstate flights and 737/8 flights to leave from the T1 terminal with a couple of the smaller planes as well where required. The rest of the regional flights to other locations will run through T2 still. However since their super close anyway, I think your parking is quite self explainatory. Although they haven't officially told people when all the planes will start leaving from T1 and might be scaling up operations over the next few weeks. My sister booked a ticket to the east coast this week for Feb 2016 and the ticket still indicates the flight will leave from T3 so this might be a gradual build up to make sure they dont mess up the operations.

Emails are currently being sent out. Got a few this morning:

Virgin Australia would like to advise of a Terminal Change at Perth Airport for your upcoming flight. From 22 November, all Virgin Australia flights that previously operated through T3 will relocate to the new T1 Domestic Terminal.
T1 Domestic is an extension of the existing T1 International Terminal, located off Horrie Miller Drive.
An updated itinerary will be sent to you shortly to reflect this change. Please note the new terminal for your domestic flight will be shown as ‘T1 INTERNATIONAL’.
For more information and a location map please visit www.virginaustralia.com/perthterminal

Kind Regards

The Virgin Australia Team

Was hoping to tell everybody about the experience arriving there after enjoying "The Business" but instead standing in the queue in SYD waiting for a bed as VA569 cancelled due crew out of hours.

Cancelled ex SYD? That's pretty poor as it's their hub and they should have crew on standby.

A couple of notes with a few photos to follow later.

I checked in at one of the Priority checkin kiosks. When you walk in the door there are four in front of the escalators that take you up to security. They were all being used but there were 2 additional around the back/underside of the escalators. I will always go straight to these in future.

I'm flying to Karratha this morning on the 0645 flight whereas there is also a 0600 flight. The kiosk offered me if I would like to move ahead to the earlier flight as the very first interaction!! Seriously impressed by this. I will have to try this another time. I couldn't today as travelling with a non-status colleague.

The screen to then confirm your booking has a tiny little table with your details and a tiny link to "add" your checked bags. I couldn't manage to make this link responsive and just clicked continue and my boarding pass popped straight out. The new process was a little quicker than I had expected it to be on the kiosk. However If already checked in on mobile I would like an improvement to be able to skip this step and head straight to the self-bag drop.

The bag drops have rotatable screens for operator or customer use. When I got there the three priority ones were configured 2 as operator and 1 as customer. However the 1 customer one had a few pax waiting and two VA staff running around trying to figure something out. 1 of the operator drops was missing it's operator, so there was only one priority one actually useable and their was a pax already in attendance getting checked-in and requiring a bit of extra attention so I waited a few minutes for that. All the normal ones were quite busy too so I figured I would wait for the purple operated one (which was a few minute wait)

Just after I completed my bag drop with the operator every single self-service drop put up an "unavailable" message. With a lot of confused pax and staff. I need to use the facilities so I didn't wait around to see what happened.

Up to security there were two lanes open. The priority screening is really well defined seperated by a glass wall, however there was ZERO queue on both so I just walked through the normal queue as it required less steps. there were two lanes open that roughly lined up with the priority and general queues however with so few pax and really efficient processing.

I'm now up in the lounge. Stock standard to the Bne/Mel/Syd lounges, it feels so empty in terms of numbers of pax but it's probably just because we aren't used to having so much space. Was good to have three staff on the reception desk as this was often a bottle neck with often only 1.5 staff on the old T3 reception desk. No dedicated service desk unfortunately, only the reception desk. Towels/kits for showers are still obtainable from the desk like the old T3 arrangement. I am just eating an eggs benedict. This is something I had NEVER ever seen in the old T3 lounge.

That is very impressive. So if they fix that little bug, you could probably check bags and fly ahead pretty easily then (not that it can't be done now).

How are the showers in the new lounge? This always drove me crazy when I had an overnight flight from SIN into PER (before heading onwards to MEL) and needed to freshen up.

Thanks for the report samas!
