Sorry if this has been asked before, just a query about this new upgrade system where you can waitlist for a domestic upgrade and they let you know 5 hours before whether it's been awarded.

Say we are 5 hours out from a flight on a 738, there are 6 seats paid for and 2 online upgrade seats already confirmed, leaving 4 free seats in Business.

Are these 4 people likely to be given a seat or are they only going to have their upgrades confirmed if one of the already confirmed upgrades is cancelled for some reason?

Does this make sense?

I suppose I'm asking if this is going to drastically curtail Club upgrades.

I guess there is a difference between confirmed prior upgrades and ODU. If ODU, For ODU I am sure they would rank in them that terrible order of 'status' CL/WP1/WP/SG/PS/LTB.

I usually get what i apply for.

I was actually talked out of an UG by the lovely lady on the J Syd lounge desk the other weekend....you keep your points darling.....said in a very heavy accented Zsa Zsa Gabor kinda way......

Hmmm, I disagree. I think On Departure Upgrades are less focussed on status order - I have been trumped in PER by a QP and SG who rocked up to the counter first. I got there and told .... all gone. This was T-40 so I presume, it's first in best dressed. Similarly in ADL I have rocked up 1.5 hours before and given a ODU there and then, how can they rank them in order - what if a P1 or CL came after me and they were already down to 2 seats (the cut off I believe for ODUs).

Did you end up getting the upgrade?

I think the way it should work is get all the requests and decide after a cut off who gets what.

If you were in Perth, I am not surprised they couldn't do that....they struggle with what priority baggage means.....being an ex resident it can be rough and ready and not always the correct example.
