New to SQ KrisFlyer via VA (and others) - Help for inexperienced

Hi

I have just created a KF Account - I have points with VA, AMEX and Citibank.

I have trip next week in economy (H Class) and then in May in Business Class (unsure of the sold class as the AMEX travel doc and invoice only state business class).

I have access to ExpertFlyer - what upgrade class availability do I look for from Economy (H) to business and from Business to Suite (the trip up is on 380, on return is 777ER so I don't see the real value in upgrading).

As a newby on this type of activity - would appreciate any tips and advice you may have.

(edit - as I have booked and have VA FF in the booking - preferred place for status - do I loose that when I upgrade as I would then by on KF account?)

I recall that SQ awards have limited visibility through ExpertFlyer.

My understanding is that you will need to contact VA to ask them about availability of the upgrade.

You can start by searching on the Krisflyer website for availability of award redemptions on your already ticketed sectors. If you do see availability for award seats, then you could transfer miles from Amex or Citibank.

It's always worth upgrading to Suites. SQ upgrades are done by sector, so you could just upgrade the sectors you want.

Thanks for the quick reply Alby - just check EF and the flight up to SIN on Tuesday looks like it is full! Plus the return Friday next week has 1 F, OJ and 9+Y so I don't think there is any point ringing, might have a look at the May flights soon.

I did some searches on Krisflyer. Doesn't look like many options but these flights might be worth a call to VA & KF call centres to ask. Asking is still free.

Better to be sitting in one class having missed out on the upgrade than sitting in the same seat wishing you had made the call.
