In the latest blurb from QF today can now take 2 bags domestic weighing 23Kg each, total of 46kg, and non US flights 2 x 32kg, good one, but while SG can register for flight upgrade at time of booking this makes little difference as we still do not have a confirmed seat, only know up to 24 hours before flight, so they have no listened as they say at all, a confirmed seat at time of booking (think some other airlines do this). Looks like the recent price match its smoke and mirrors.

I believe that the topic of International Upgrades did come up at the AFF lunch last week (correct me if I am wrong). From what I could gather, QFF are aware that people would like confirmed upgrades (so they have listened), but for their business reasons, they have chosen to tweak the current system with changes mainly to WP1 and WP upgrade process, but SG and below are still in the same system as before. It was also mentioned that there should be more upgrades to fill empty premium seats.

The changes are largely positive and Im happy with the upgraded luggage allowance.

Earlier confirmation would be nice but I can still understand why they are reluctant to commit to UG seats more than 24hrs in advance. Still, more warning (any time from 24hrs) is better than ~3-5hrs.

Interesting stat in the email

In the past year, the success rate for Gold members in obtaining a Flight Upgrade Award internationally has been on average 65%, and we expect the changes below to make success even more likely.

Have to say I have a 100% upgrade success as a SG on the SYD-LAX-SYD route, even with upgrade requests 1-2 weeks prior to departure.
