New Qantas Singapore Crew serving F SYD-SIN

I also note this only related to QFd - but QFi crew are also employed by a number of different AU-based companies.
I wonder if there was a corresponding case in relation to QFi.

It's worth noting that this doesn't only apply to outsourcing: QF has or had a complex corporate structure to allow it to bypass existing EBAs without outsourcing.

Are these SIN crews effectively going to take over most of AU CC operating LH? Ie like what Jetstar has done with its 787, mostly crewed by foreign agencies.

(3) SIN based crews will never negotiate better pay and conditions because they won't be represented by AU unions.
The Singapore Unions for the airline industry can actually be quite bitey- one main reason the service quality on SQ never really recovered since Covid. Speak to some local Singaporeans who travel regularly and they can tell you some stories on this topic!

Towards the end of the article, it states Qantas Cabin Crew Australia - Aussie based international crew - are going to now be employed by Qantas directly. Ending that (internal) labour-hire arrangement.

A good example of the general legal principle that titles, headings, preambles and such are not relevant to statutory interpretation.
In practice the act applies to Australian based workers, regardless of their nationality.
So it would apply to NZ nationals employed to work from QF's SYD or MEL bases.
But it wouldn't apply to an Australian FAs employed in the UK to work from the London base.

* Side note: I suppose just as LHR is not a good abbreviation for London because there is also LGW, LCY etc, with the opening of WSI the abbreviation SYD can no longer unambiguously mean Sydney. Although MEL still means Melbourne because Avalon is really in Geelong.

Yes, but you do have LON for London, UK, but no such animals for Sydney ot Melbourne .

But LON isn't an airport code, just as there are CDG & ORY but PAR doesn't exist.
Which is really annoying when searching for flights: Goggle flights lets you choose "Paris" and will search for CDG & ORY.
But the QF search engine forces you to search for either CDG or ORY (yes I know QF only flies to/from CDG but there are partner CRs to/from ORY).
I was only thinking about the unambiguous dual use of an airport code for its corresponding city.
Such as PER, ADL, BNE, HBA etc.

But they do exist when trying to make a booking on an educated website (not Qantas').

Agree. The airport code should only ever be used to refer to the airport itself, not the city.

I think even for current VA/QF/ZL crew, they are Syndey-based, rather than SYD-based? And same for Melbourne etc.

Actually I frequently use the airport code to stand in for the city, and I was lamenting being unable to do this any more for SYD.
I'm fairly sure it's a habit I picked up from my then best friend, who was a QF CSM and by now may well be a pilot.

I think most people would recognise that Fair Work legislation applies to all workers in Australia.

It makes no sense that Fair Work would not apply to an overseas backpacker with a working visa in Australia..
