Dear AFF'ers,

Unsure if this is posted elsewhere. I searched the forum but couldn't find any references.

According to this "news" news article, QF is introducing a few changes (it's a gradual roll-out) on how things will be once intl travel opens up on Monday (01/11)

Some of the key points are :

1. The crew will say "Welcome to country"
2. Plant-based on-board meals - Whooo, Whooo!!

By mid-November, Qantas hopes to have its new menu in place, with one little tweak.

“One of the things we’ve been spending a lot of time talking to customers about over the last few years … and we’ve listened to what they have to say … so we are introducing plant-based options for the first time for all customers in all cabins,” Ms Tully said.

Examples of the plant-based menu include celeriac gratin with roast fennel, peas, mushroom and onion sauce and a ratatouille pasta bake with a herb crumb, cauliflower and green beans.

3. Australian ice creams will be added to the in-flight menu. I thought this was already there ? I remember Maggie Beer ice cream, popsicles without the stick, etc?

4. Movie Service - cabin crew offering snacks ? I thought they already did this. It was more when we paged and asked for a snack, now it's like they'll be around with a snack or two and you can ask if you feel like.

Due to Covid, Qantas has had to ditch the snack bar but is instead offering a new “movie service”.

“It’s one great example of our team pivoting with the times … so we’ll be roaming the economy cabin constantly with snacks and drinks, so it’s almost like a roaming movie service,” Ms Tully said.

I, for one, am excited to try their plant-based menu. So I'm excited for that. Sad to see the economy snack bar go - I used to grab a museli bar or two from the A380's upper deck, back galley.

It was mentioned in the predictions of international travel thread

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Congregating and other people touching items probably.

What nonsense. People will still congregate. I'd suggest there is more social distancing at the snack bar than there seated in Y when full.

May be there will be periodical cleaning, say every hour or so? depending on the duration of the flight?

and maybe when you look out the window you'll see a flying pig ;) More seriously, they can wipe down the snack bar too.

re : snack bar - I agree they could wipe it down every now & then
re : toilets - I have seen FA's clean the toilet periodically ... I think this was intl, I saw the FA come out of the toilet after it had just been cleaned ...

Hopefully no one will need the toilet then!
My few domestic flights have had very clear announcements against congregating for the toilet.

Dude, NO Self service. I'm really not sure how this fact has been missed for the last, what, at least 12 months.

what about the word Mandate - does that mean mandatory or optional?

Doesnt stop people doing it though. I mean you have to start queuing at some point otherwise you wont get in...

Neither I think. Mandate is a noun, the others are adjectives. 😀

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Hopefully use of the toilet will still be self service. Dude.

Hey dude...what mandate are you referring to? QF obviously didn't get the memo because when I flew within the last 12 months I self served check-in, bag drop, bag collection. In the lounges I self served myself food and drink. So dude, maybe you should get in touch with AJ about your mandate on this because he too seems to have missed it too.

Your lounge experience was different to mine. No self serve since covid started, but I have been in lockdown for the last three months. Last flew in July.

Tend to agree. What's really the difference between someone grabbing some prepackaged food from a shelf in an airplane, and self service of prepackaged food at a supermarket.

We all know Covid is just an excuse for cost cutting. Yes COVID is to blame for it, it's gutted the airline revenue stream so is a valid reason to look to cut costs. But we all know Qantas always love dressing up mutton as lamb. Simpler and Fairer. Enhancements. Anyone who's been following Qantas long enough knows exactly how to write and exactly how to decode their press releases. Goes for most airlines, if truth were to be told, but Qantas have perfected the art.

Was some discussion in another thread about Weis bars vs paddle pops/splits.

Not on sale prices @ woolworths - Weis bars - 4 for $7.80. Split - 10 for $7.00, Paddle Pop - 8 for $7.00.
