I'm travelling to London in December this year currently with Qantas. I've recently just flown back from LA with them [to Sydney] and when I boarded they had installed their new entertainment system.

Question is, does anyone know the roll out schedule? I travelled in J from LA and will again be in J on the way to London.

I'm trying to decide between the Qantas flight or a BA flat bed flight - thinking the entertainment system might tip the balance.

Many thanks
Nick

Qantas oroginally expected to have the AVOD rollout completed by early next year. However, they are only about half way through the process, so most unlikely (I am being polite here) to meet that schedule.

With BA you are guaranteed not to have AVOD - unless they continue their route "enhancement" and start flying 767s down to Australia.

In my opinion, CX is a nice option if you want AVOD. QF is a good option if you want seat width. BA is good option if you want horozontal sleep ability.

Personally I would choose daytime flights and take Cathay or Qantas.

In May/June [J] I flew CX to HK, then CX to Lon, both had AVOD, and no problems and great range. Then flew BA to IAD, coughpy entertainment system, thought I was back 10 yrs. From NY to LA flew the QF Sydney flight, with non-avod, but from LA to MEL, had AVOD.
CX and QF AVOD, streets ahead of Normal QF, and BA, well if it was horse race would still be running.....

I just did my first couple of Business Class flights. Firstly SYD-LAX on QF and then a couple of weeks later JFK-LHR on BA. I have to say on every level the BA flight was awful.

Yes I know its only a short flight but the face to face seats with a footstool made the skybed on QF look like a luxury king size bed. And the entertainment system in BA was basically not worth even turning on. Very disappointing. I am much more looking forward to my QF flight from LHR-SIN and SIN-SYD in a couple of weeks. Although the flight followed by a day at work doesnt appeal as much ;)

No Question about it, the BA bed is far better than the QF bed imo
I am glad you put that "imo" at the end.

I think the QF Skybed wins over the BA NCW bed every time.

Comes down to personal opinion, I suppose.

It does indeed. For me the difference is not greatly significant and I am happy with either, so my choice is generally based more on schedule, availability, routing etc rather than the seat. But if all else the same I will take QF Skybed for a daytime flight because I think it is a more comfortable seat and chance of AVOD, and QF for a night-time flight if on a 3-class aircraft and will wait list for a points upgrade to F. I would probably take a BA J flight over QF 2-class for a night time flight.

I can't say that my recent BA experience (LHR-YUL) was awful on "every level" because they upgraded me to Business from premium economy but I DO AGREE with Simongr that the face-to-face (very narrow) seats with footstools were really awful. Cathay (BNE-LHR-BNE), on the other hand ... :D was wonderful and the sound system excellent.
