New QANTAS APP

Fair enough it might not be cost effective to develop a single app for Android, but if you're going to promote the iOS one as some jazzed-up, function packed loyalty tool, then at least give other loyal, non Apple users a slightly optimised mobile site so that we can check accounts, look at activity statements etc. It is a massive PITA to have to log in to the full site every time you want to check if points have posted, check SCs etc. Unfortunately when this same point was raised at the Rockpool lunch the answer given sounded almost as if it had been copied verbatim from J. Gillard's Guide To Good PR, namely "we'll look into it".
Oh I couldn't agree more. The mobile website is a joke!

And yes, at the lunch that phrase was used a lot (As it was at the SYD P1 Lunch a few years back). Even us lowly iOS users suffer =)

It would make more sense to just develop a mobile site for Android than an App. That's the problem with Android; Fragmentation. Different screen sizes, different resolutions, different processes, a very much so larger base of different versions of Android etc etc.

Ask any developer; they'll all say they prefer developing for iOS. Ignore the Android vs iPhone debate or being locked into either ecosystem (or any handset specifications) and the fact that iPhone is so locked in and not variable, it's a developers dream in comparison :)

That argument is flawed. Same issue with iPhones and their different screen resolutions now too.

As for the ask any developer comment...again flawed. Just asked some and they prefer Android. Why? Because you don't have the ridiculous restrictions Apple impose.

If QF could just enhance one app that will do almost all the things its full website does and release it on all platforms, that would be lovely. ;)

I don't even want to think about how QF could ENHANCE the app

So once again those using Android (statistics suggest a sizeable majority) have been overlooked. We get stuck with the coughpy mobile site.

Just got a message from a friend in QF Digital Marketing re QF Android App and at this stage it's looking like July but they are pushing for sooner .

Similar to how their first app was basically just the mobile site, but functional, which was discontinued in favour of a frequent shopper app that did nothing. I'd say that was an 'enhancement'.

How many screen resolutions for current iPhones now - iPhone 4, 4S and 5 are on sale so is that three or two? How many screen resolutions for Android on sale?

Anyone else have issues logging in to your QFF account through the App?

Mine keeps failing, but I am 100% sure I'm using the correct credentials.

Just worked for me, though earlier I had issues with the whole site, so it may have been something to do with that.

How many developers do you know? I know several dozen, and they all say 'Android programming is a nightmare'

iPhone: 3G/4. Same resolution. iPhone 5. iPad 1/2 (and I don't count them in the iPhone part as most developers are going to code dual apps for ipad/phone).

Would you care to guess how many different screen resolutions, processors, memory and different version of Android combinations there are?

I work in the mobile industry. I know of no developer who prefers coding for Android over iOS. The 'ridiculous' restrictions you mention. Which ones?

You mean the ridiculous restrictions that stop your app crashing the phone?

I won't show the rest of the app because it shows my personal details, but the best app for Qantas as a traveller, as opposed to being made aware of discount airfares (I use a thing called email for that), is on the best Mobile OS of them all - and it isn't iOS or Android..... youtu.be/Z19vR1GldRI

If I want to check account activity I use Consume. Easy really. But it is possible to check activity statement using the mobile website, after about 7 "clicks"

1. Save URL for "Your Activity" to bookmarks.
2. Log into mobile site.
3. Type 'activ...' into the address bar and the bookmark should appear, click it and you're done. ;)

Windows 8 Qantas App is awesome.

I went to a work function and it was show cased on what the app could do.

Other airlines are working copying it

I wish VA would hurry up with a WP8 app, and both QF and VA also take advantage of the Microsoft Wallet (like Passport, but also has opportunities with NFC)

Just add in seat selection and QFF (points/sc etc) and it'll be great! :)
