Hi, as the title suggests this is my first post on this forum so greetings to all. I had looked at it for advice regarding lounges I would use while on a recent trip and found it really useful so thought it was time to make a contribution myself. I'm never sure how to introduce yourself on these forums but I'm a doctor in Sydney and have flown a fair bit - actually I just totalled it up as best I can and have flown at least 304 sectors, over half to Europe, and >1.6million kms, most on Emirates. Hopefully I can have something sensible to contribute! Have to admit to being an Emiratophile (sorry Qantas).

Anyway I recently came back from Glasgow and can report that there is a new Emirates lounge there. As expected it has all the trimmings expected of a full service Emirates lounge. In size its similar to Sydney with a rectangular layout and glass wall along the long side allowing a full view of the tarmac. Its well divided between seating / dining / business areas. Briefly counting the seats it looked like it can take over 100 people so no chance it will be full. There are 2 showers in the gents wash room, no idea about the ladies but would expect similar at least. The food selection was up the usual standard with main courses focusing on curries (as somewhat expected in the curry capital of the UK). The wines were excellent with a good selection of white / red - though I though the red was better with a great pinot noir. Champagne was Veuve C. The staff were friendly and very keen to help, I think they really appreciated having their own loung in the airport now rather than using the 'Skylounge' which is the generic lounge in the airport and decidedly average. All in all its a great asset to the airport and Emirates/Qantas customers in general travelling from there - a very good place to spend some time before boarding and definitely the place to eat before flying - no comparison between this and the offerings on board no matter which class of cabin you are in (Emirates now have economy/business/first to and from GLA from DXB).

The lounge at Venice airport was as expected from previous reviews on this forum. It is well located, reasonable size with an enormous viewing deck about the size of a tennis court. An outstanding location and view if you want to watch airfield activity. The selection of food consists of fruit, sandwiches, small slices of pizza and biscuits. The selection of wine/beer is quite good but there is no self service for these though staff seemed immediately on hand to serve. There is free wifi with good speeds. They accept Priority pass which was my route to entry in this particular occassion. Not a great lounge but a lot better than the concourse.

Lastly, the lounge at Vanuatu airport. Its small, snacks (ie potatoe chips only), awful wine, local beer and soft drinks. It is also about 5mx5m in size and could take maybe 16 people. No wifi, 1 television on the wall. Not much really, BUT it is the only place there that is air-conditioned and when you've queued at checkin and seen the general waiting area that alone is reason enough to beat a path there and then give thanks that you have been so lucky.

Hope these few comments help some fellow travellers.
Cheers

Welcome FlyingScot1 there are a fair few doctors on here including myself. It's good to have you here :)
Nice write up on the lounges esp GLA. I glanced wistfully through the glass doors the last time I was there en-route to the Int gates for my dep to LCY.

Welcome to AFF Flyingscot1 - a great post to start off with, sounds like you have lots to contribute.
Hopefully we will meet in a lounge one day

Welcome to AFF!

I flew recently to GLA with Emirates and on the leg from DXB-GLA was chatting to a Scotsman who was a frequent Emirates flyer. He said that Emirates was positioning GLA to become a major hub for them to reach the USA... Has anyone else heard something similar?

Looking forward to hearing more about your Emirates experiences! As Princess Fiona said, there are a few doctors on here, I'm one too. :)

Hi Dr Artemis,
Thanks for your reply. I hadn't heard this but it would make sense in that the lounge is too big simply to accommodate the passengers from a 777-ER. An A380 on the other hand would be a different matter - if they were planning on going on to NY for instance and soak up a large chunk of the direct traffic over the Atlantic. No doubt people would be lining up to use their service over the American airlines currently on these routes. Emirates did land an A380 at Glasgow for some publicity in the relatively recent past. They also have 2 slots a day and the obvious way to increase capacity would be to put an A380 on the route though Glasgow airport would have to upgrade the terminal to allow for a double decker gang way etc. Who knows.
Cheers

Hi Prozac, yes you do - from Glasgow but in Sydney for over 10 years hence my obscene carbon footprint flying around. Last time I wrote the word prozac it was on a script! Actually I work in Manly once a fortnight, great place to live, awesome beach. Cheers.
