I managd to get a pretty good pic of the new lounge/ terminal expansion in MEL this afternoon. It's massive!

Does MEL have a "The Club" yet? But even if space for a Club needs to be carved out the Lounge will still be enormous.

Fixed it for you:

Is that the existing Lounge in the middle? (If so, it's no wonder they fogged/screened the windows along from the entrance.)

Thanks for that. I was on the ipad with limited editing options.

Yep, that's the existing lounge in the middle... the scale of the expansion is pretty huge ... i wonder if it's all lounge or whether some of it is terminal expansion?

It's all Virgin Lounge. Will look the same as the new T4 it will connect to though. They're also currently building a new lounge above the baggage hall as 'The Club'. Curb side entrance is also happening. Lots of changes happening. Security will also move.

By observation of the base structure, it looks like they are trying to recreate the SYD lounge in MEL

Does anyone know if security will be before the lounge or as is now (the lounge airside and then proceed through security)
After security would be great like at other ports, thus allowing pax to head straight to the gate.
:)

Bit of a shame really. The Virgin Lounge in MEL with current config still brings back memories of the Ansett Golden Wing Lounge of days gone by.

Memories, as a former AN Elite, i'd rather forget TBH. The reason I don't tend to sit on the raised area in MEL is because it reminds me of days gone by. The new expansion is considerably more expansive than I thought too!

Ahh so someone else survived the wet windy arrival this arvo, 45 mins to get the bags, should have just gone to the lounge for an hour in its current config and had a coffee. Looks as if it will be huge. Still waiting for a lounge in Newcastle.......

I was on the Newcastle flight too. Lots of bumps on the way in. The guy next to me did the brace position just before landing! Fortunately i was HLO so got out of there pretty quickly.

Well, I'm offically confused.

Didn't everyone say the new lounge would extend further west(???) toward the furthest arm so the coffee shop didn't lose their views? By the look of that construction, the coffee shop views are long gone and there would be no impediment to it all becoming an airside lounge right now.

The one time I take luggage and 40 mins to get the bags grrr

At present it will be still prior to security. This is a MELAIR thing apparently...

And that's the one thing that i dislike about Melbourne Airport. It's almost not worth going to the lounge to have to go in and out, if you only have say 30 minutes.

Looks like a big addition but its needed. Have been in Melbourne 3 times this week, all different times, and the traffic level was horrid every time.
