"Jetstar will begin Boeing 787 flights from Sydney and Brisbane next year as the low-cost airline launches new international routes under the Dreamliner's long curved wing.

From January 15th 2014 Jetstar's Boeing 787 will begin flights between Sydney and Bali, with a Sydney-coughet service starting on February 3rd.

Brisbane will see the Boeing 787 from April 15th, with a new direct flight between Brisbane and Bali.

Some interesting rumours floating around on pprune and mentioned elsewhere that the reason for all these "short" Jetstar 787 routes is that the aircraft have derated engines and pylon capability versus some of the other 787s out there.
Aviation Business: B787 headed for a different role in Qantas?

Then again it could just be the fact that an LCC will have more of an advantage on the shorter routes.

I shake my head whenever I see these announcements. The planes should be flying with Qantas on premium routes, not loaned to jetstar for non premium routes.

The original Qantas media release from 2005 makes it clear that the first 787s were always destined for JQ and were talked up as being able to operate routes to Asia, Europe and USA.

I don't think that makes it any less saddening unfortunately...

Agreed - but there's a lot of conspiracy theorists out there claiming the 787s were never meant for JQ or there has been a change in the deployment strategy to shift them from QF. The fact is, there has not (at least in respect of the initial 787s).

Hmm. I'd forgotten Jetstar mentioned 787s to Europe a long while ago. How does bali go as being a hub for europe. 2 planes to bali and one going on to europe might work.
