New generation of £10 Poms on the way | Travel News | News.com.au

IN an offer almost too good to be true, British travellers will soon be able to fly to Australia for less than the price of a guide book.

In a take on the term £10 Pom, originally coined to describe British citizens who migrated to Australia after World War II, the scheme will allow Brits to travel Down Under for just STG10 ($20.42).

The move to boost the tourism industry will see 150 Qantas tickets to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide available for anyone with a valid Working Holiday Visa.

I have forwarded the link onto my dad, as his sister in the UK might like one of those fares. However I reckon they'll be gone so fast.

At 150 it is not a generation, just a cheap marketing stunt.

But they are one way tickets so I have no doubt that Qantas will arrange "special" airfares for the return journey :!:.

Like the $1200 return airfares they offer for the US or $2000 one way...

Those poms are going to be so ripped off on the way back home...

Is the £10 include the tax or is tax to be added. ;)

Not if they use 64,000 Qantas miles to get home, or does BA have 1 way awards.

Something tells me that if they are looking at £10 airfares they probably don't all have 64,000 QF miles to fall back on...

They'd probably be able to get some cheap one way fares back home with someone like AirAsiaX (AU$508) which I expect most would do.

Indeed. It's just a marketing stunt. According to a Tourism Australia press release at the beginning of the year ( http://www.tourism.australia.com/content/News Centre/UK Australia Day media kit/Increase in WHV.pdf ) 20,851 working holiday visas were issued to Brits between July and December 2008.

Cousin who's a tavel agent in Liverpool agrees - good publicity for OZ though...

Now all we need as some AUD$10 fares to Manchester around Christmas time with unlimited stopovers...

Mr!
