Apologies, because I know this thread is somewhere but I just can't seem to find it. I am on QF485 to PER in two weeks time and keen to find out whether I might score one of the new A330-200s?

I just had the same question and looked it up only to find your unanswered post.

A couple of months ago I was on QF575 (SYD-PER 0815) and scored the new beast. They were so excited about it they handed out surveys to fill out. I mentioend this in another thread. I haven't seen this aircraft since despite numerous trips to PER and back.

Anyone know where it is?
What about the second new one they announced in the latest newsletter? My chances have doubled?

QF have 3 "domestic" A332's , EBJ, EBM, EBN and 4 international A332's (EBG, EBH, EBI, EBL).

I was on QF485 the other day and happened to score EBN, but had EBJ on QF648 previously.

From what I can gather is that the placement of EBJ is random, and the seatmap you have either with OLCI or Select your seat can tell you whether you have EBJ or not.

EBJ has row 23 the whole way across, where the other 2 domestic A332's do not have the middle four seats on row 23 (and 24?).

If you are unlucky to get EBJ, then it is no personal IFE and 2-3-2 in J;)

And according the my mate who flew on QF481 yesterday, he was on EBM, so that answers your question as to where the new A332 is or was;)

EBN is the newer of the two having been delivered last month, in fact almost exactly a month ago (23/2).

Indeed it is (and it still has the new plane smell). Reference to EBM was to the Warks and his question referring to the new plane delivered in December.

I thought you were referring to the question about the "second one" which is in fact EBN, as Warks says it doubles the chance of getting the new cabin, mind you have not heard of anyone talking about the starclass seats on JQ ex Perth given their new A330 is running on the route this month.

I forgot about JQ sending their A332's this way for a limited period of time.

It would be interesting to see how they allocate the *Class seats, as from memory they were not selling it as *Class.

I spoke with Cheesy this morning, and he also agrees that the new A332 is very nice, and I guess it makes up seeing that (as much as I would love for it to happen) we will not see a regular jumbo service over here any time soon...

Certainly a very nice aircraft, and the ODU was 16,000 points well spent! Not SkyBeds, but the new Recaro Premium Economy seats as per the A380, so certainly an excellent product.

Okay on the basis of that advice I had a look at the seat plan and found that rows 23 and 24 go right across so I may be in luck on QF575.

If you go for the flight information by clicking on the QF575 link it tells you it's a A330-200 but with two possible configurations for domestic - 38 Business and 265 Economy or 36 Business and 265 Economy. It also says:
The unique features of this aircraft include:
Audio and Video on Demand (AVOD)^

(But it also says that for the A330-300.) I assume that little ^ symbol means that it's "not available on all aircraft" although I can't see that anywhere.

The 36J version is the older one by the look of it.

Later this year, EBO will arrive sporting the EBM and EBN layout, at which time EBJ will turn silver with orange star.

I was on a A332 on Monday, 8.10am flight SYD-PER and it was 2-3-2 in J and no AVOD.

I for one will be very happy when these birds turn JQ as AVOD is great on the trancons.

We were on QF802 (24A & B) on Sunday last which was either EBM and EBN though I did not see which.

Quite comfortable and the AVOD worked well. I went for a walk to the tail and found the rear seating area quite noisy from about half way back. Has anyone else noticed this :?:

I flew on QF497 SYD-MEL on 19th Mar in row 1K sat next to Jenny Macklin and this plane has AVOD which si great and the seats were nice. I never noticed that they might have been PE seating but the recline was nice. The in arn trays are quite narrow though hard to use. This plane had 2 2 2 config and was advertised by the CSM as a brand new plane, a goo dchange from the old 767.

OT: Please tell me you gave Jenny Macklin a very firm slap, Jethro Gibbs style across the back of the head ;)

Can't stand that women, the latter-day version of Carmen Lawrence.

Well not exactly a slap. I am too polite to be doing that. I said hi, i think she responded with a quiet grunt and that was the end of the conversation. I could not remember what her portfolio was but when i found out at home it was minister for families i would have hit her up for lack of govt support when families like mine have triplets.... 4 months into our new lives with three little boys and only now finding out about all the quietly kept grants you can apply for and onyl because we had a article about our family in our local paper and a lady with triplets told us. It is all fine and good when govt's provide assistance but when they keep it a secret to obviously save money then I have a real issue. Glad to have gotten that off my chest.

I'm not sure if that would happen or not, isn't QF trying to replace their 767 fleet as JQ are getting the bulk of the 787 order?

There are 6(?) more A330's on order for JQ. One of these (EBO), will be arriving in the new domestic QF config, swapping with the older domestic A330. There is a reason they changed these aircraft from having a 2-2-2 business config to 2-3-2 - it was part of moving them over to JQ.

Well this is a complete furphy. No AVOD on QF575 despite the layout described above.

BUT the great thing about any A330 on this leg is that there's a decent chance of an empty seat next to me which is better than an exit row and just about as good as J without the service. Especially when there's the two middle seats empty.

On the return flight QF576 which I hadn't caught before, it was a coughpy old 767 which was chock-a-block. Got an exit row but sitting right next to the dunnies is no joy at all on this flight.
