I've just checked in at CBR for my flight to SYD. The J/Q club check-in line was occupied by so many non-status flyers. :?:

The terminal is a bit of a mess with a lot of removalists moving around. The QF check-in agent told me that from tomorrow (Sunday) morning, the new terminal will start its operations. The J lounge is closed. I am looking forward to checking out the new J lounge next week as an arrival lounge :)

Will be interesting to see how smoothly the new terminal will run. No LHR T5 situation for sure (?!).

Yep, I was one of the last 5 pax in the old J lounge this morning - I think my flight QF704 would have been the last flight called :)

Looking forward to checking out the new terminal and lounges when I land back there tomorrow evening.

I'm not going to get a chance to see the new terminal, QP or J lounge for some time. But later in 2011 I will be using them a fair bit.

I am very interested to see what the new facilities look like. If some pictures could be posted once they're open that would be fantastic.

Yeah, I'm looking forwards to tuesday morning... I'll take some pics and post them up here if I get a chance...

Important to keep the riff raff out of the queues. If this caper keeps up we can start a campaign.

Having said that half of cbr is QP and above!!

Was there this morning and as noted above it still has that new airport smell. :)

There were lots of staff about and some of them were seeing it for the first time themselves. Will be interesting to see how it all works out and what places become popular.

Lots of new Apple computers everywhere but they weren't connected to the Internet this morning.

Couldn't see any Ched biscuits, but I did notice liquorice all sorts in glass jars around the place. Is this new?

I did notice the protective security personnel walking around a lot getting a feel for where everything is located.

Wonder if the staff at the front desk like the lack of a wall behind their desk? It seems that the curtain is able to move a bit but I was able to sit in the club and look at them from behind. I would hate to work in a physical environment like that.

My flight took off about five minutes late this morning and the captain noted that the crew were still getting used to where the printers were located.

I look forward to seeing the new Canberra terminal....ched-less as it may be!
:D

I noticed As i was driving around to Fairbairn this morning that the new drop off road was open and apparently Rentals are now con the ground floor of the multistory carpark.

On the Canberra airport website, Canberras QC is be the second biggest. I think only QF are departing from the new terminal for the time being and they will start demolishing the old terminal, to build the other half of the new terminal which will be multiuser.

I flew out on Friday and back Sunday to a completely new and different terminal.
It actually feels like an airport now.

Saw the lollies on Tuesday (09/11) in the SYD J lounge for the first time so I'm guessing its new.

We were advised that Hertz actually moved on Wednesday the 10th. The advice also said that Hertz would not be operating a Gold booth in the car park but would have a Gold Express line operating at the terminal desk.

Richard.

I'm surprised Qantas didn't use the new terminal as an opportunity to roll out NGCI.

+1 - me too.

But perhaps they wanted to make sure it all works in Perth and Sydney before they started to roll it out across the rest of the network.

Thanks for providing the link to your photos.

Both lounges look excellent. The new style of seating in the Business Lounge appears very comfortable - I'm looking forward to trying them out when I get the chance next year.

I'm only going by the photos - and I'd like to see what more users think - but it looks like Qantas has really risen the standard of their lounges. On the whole I liked their previous lounges (but they did tend to get crowded at peak times), but these new spaces seem like a big improvement.

Thanks for the photos they do look good. I'm heading there tomorrow morning so I'll take some more with my "real" camera (not from a phone) and post them up...

Apparently Canberra and Adelaide will be done mid next year. After Brisbane and Melbourne.

Seems silly given a brand new airport in Canberra with a lot of traffic to and via Sydney with NGCI.

Arrived this morning from SYD on QF787 - airport looks great, although a few teething problems - we had to wait 10-15 minutes for a gate as they were all full (things haven't changed in CBR!), and then the gate refused to work.

And to add injury in insult we needed to exit down stairs from THE REAR of the plane in the rain  Lets just say there were a few J PAX (including a few MPs) on that flight who were less than amused!:D

Fly back to SYD tomorrow - looking forward to trying the J lounge.

I'm surprised Qantas didn't use the new terminal as an opportunity to roll out NGCI.

Apparently this is because Virgin and Tiger are using the new terminal for checkins, and once they move to their final destinations in the western extension then QF can NGCI.

Okay, the photogallery for the new terminal is now up - click here – and when you see some of the coughpy pics, spare a thought for the journalist who felt like a dufus because he accidentally left his real camera at home and so had to use his iPhone!

Thanks just caught up.

Re Glass air bridges - just like Adelaide, soon everywhere will have them. :D
