Still waiting for LHR-HEL-NRT-BNE to post, just got in yesterday and jet lagged! AA only posted this morning so didn't have status for the last two longhauls but we managed to get bulkhead seats in Y anyway!

One bag has been delayed, 2 arrived with us and the largest one is still in HEL for some unknown reason. QF baggage handlers (we booked QF code share on JL) say it will be in on CX today.

One small problem, the first 2 flights on QF (TN codde share) didn't post. L class BNE-SYD-PPT. What happened? The FF number is showing in the record and L class is 50% miles/points.

Welcome back.I have been reading your blogs as next August off on a global explorer BNE-SYD-PPT-IPC-SCL-LIM-UIO and onwards through the states. We will be cruising the Galaapagos but with your blog changed vour Amazon stay to one with parrot salt licks. In fact have just sent off the email to book the first legs to UIO as those have to be definite dates.
I am doing the challenge next month and by december should be EXP.So will be routing via SYD for F lounge!Pity cant get in on the PPT codeshare.

Congrats Tiki - it's been a long time coming this trip for you :)

ENjoy the candy :D

Did you use you AA or QF FF number for those flights? If QF, then they are eligible for QF FF points and SC earning.

As the flights were operated by TN under the QF codeshare, they are not eligible for AA mileage earning. See the AA information on Qantas flight earning (my bolding):

Earning AAdvantage Miles
Earn a minimum of 500 AAdvantage® miles each time you purchase and fly on Qantas, a member of oneworld. Qualifying miles, points and segments count toward AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum®, and AAdvantage Gold® status and bonuses. To attain AAdvantage elite status, member must fly on at least four American Airlines or American Eagle flights within the qualifying year. Flight mileage may not accrue on flights operated by carriers other than oneworld carriers.

This is an anomaly then.If flying SYD-PPT on a TN flight number you are eligible to earn AA miles but not EQM or EQP and L would earn you 100% miles. It does seem crazy therefore that if flight number changes to a OW partner then you get zippo.Still crazier things happen.

Drron, glad you enjoyed the blog. I highly recommend Rainforest Expeditions. www.perunature.com The small clay licks sometimes don't get any parrots. You really need to go to Tambopata Research Centre to see parrots and macaws in large numbers.

NM, your bolding says MAY not accrue mileage. I am just looking at the boarding passes and see the AA FF number didn't prit on the boarding pass. All the other flights, the FF numbers are on the boarding passes. I think there may be a screw up at BNE because they printed both boarding passes.

Has this happened to others? I know most of you use the xONEx product so most of you wouldn't be on that flight. And BNE-SYD is eligible for AA unquestionably and it didn't post. AA.com says it doesn't accept missing mileage requests until 15 days after all travel is completed so I have to wait 2 weeks?

I would not expect to earn on the codeshare. under OneWorld partner agreement, you only earn if the flight is coded and operated by OneWorld airlines. And under the TN/AA agreement, you only earn if operated and coded on TN.

Tiki, apologies if I have missed it in a previous post, but where is your blog located? I have intentions of going to Sth America next year and would be most interested in reading of your experiences.

Cheers

As I will be doing the QF codeshare to PPT next year I emailed AA for their take on points earning for AAdvantage and here is their answer
We're so glad you contacted us. It's always our pleasure to assist our
AAdvantage elite members.

Codeshare relationships exist so that customers have the convenience of
booking travel on one carrier to destinations that it does not serve,
by
traveling on flights operated by the codeshare carrier. For example,
you
anticipate purchasing your travel from Qantas, or American Airlines
(the
Marketing Carrier) for a flight to Papeete. Since the Marketing Carrier
does not serve this location, it purchases space from Air Tahiti Nui,
the Operating Carrier, and you will physically fly on the Operating
Carrier to your destination.

In terms of earning AAdvantage mileage, the rules that govern mileage
accrual on the Marketing Carrier dictate whether or not miles are
earned. If the flight is booked as an American Airlines flight, the AA
rules would apply. If the flight is booked as a Qantas Airways flight,
the Qantas rules would apply.

All Airlines which participate as a Qantas Codeshare partner, except
Jetstar Airways Ltd, are eligible for AAdvantage mileage accrual, but
the rules for Qantas would apply.

To view the most up-to-date information regarding eligible fares for
mileage accrual on participating carriers, please check our AA.com Web
site.

For Qantas Airways: Members earn 50% of base miles when flying on some
Qantas Discount Economy Class fares and on all eligible Deep Discount
Economy Class fares. The booking classes that accrue miles at 50% are:
L, M, V, G, O, S, and R. Full Fare Economy Class Y & B and Discount
Economy H, K and W earn miles at 100%. The following Qantas fares are
not eligible for AAdvantage mileage accrual: Q and N, as well as W
fares
prior to November 1, 2005, and R fares prior to September 1, 2005.

We encourage you to use AA.com as your best source for eligible booking
code details whenever you travel on Qantas or other participating
airlines. Please understand that with some carriers, the trade-off for
using discounted fares is a lower rate of mileage accrual -- or no
miles
at all. While we wish mileage-earning rules were all the same,
unfortunately that's just not possible given the wide number and
variety
of program participants.

I apologize that my reply is so long, but I wanted to provide you with
complete information. I hope I've addressed all of your concerns.

Regards,
I am certainly not sure that this is really correct but I am saving a copy for my use.As I want to visit IPC then this is the way I am going anyway but if I can get some miles so much the better.Definitely with AA the advice has always been to keep asking until someone gives you the answer you want.

All three QF segments posted yesterday. Maybe the last one triggered it.

07/06/07QANTAS AIRWAYS 501 Y BNE SYD23326750007/06/07QANTAS AIRWAYS 327 Y SYD PPT1,90401,904

We got 500 minimum for SYD-BNE
50% for BNE-PPT
50% for NRT-BNE plus 25% of that for Gold bomus.

Still waiting on AY to post, they should post at 100% plus 25% Gold bonus.

My trip was focussed on the best bird watching opportunites in South America so if you don't like birds, you may want to consider other places. I will be uploading pics this weekend.

Congrats Drron!!

Our new Gold AAdvantage cards arrived a few days ago. We also got some coupons for "Applause" that we are supposed to give to AA employees who give us great service.

I like the applause certs - a nice way to formally capture the feedback. I have yet to use one though ;)
