Just boarded 871 after using mobile check-in to my mobile.

Bar code scanned at gate as usual but no paper BP handed back (though they were being printed).

Got me worried as I walked across the apron to board via the rear stairs. Check with FA on boarding: yes, new process, yes do need to show electronic BP on boarding, yes, are supposed to not be using mobile on apron, yes, go figure!!

Regards,

BD

I wonder how long before the paper BP are dispensed with for pax with e-bp's.

On recent trip to the States I found that AA US and DL do not print a paper BP when using a mobile device to board.

Admittedly there is probably less prevalence of walking across the apron to board.

The US airlines also allow you to keep your mobile on gate to gate, but that is another topic.

Unlike in Australia, in the USA I have not experienced FAs checking my BP as I enter through the aircraft door. The BP is only checked at security and at the gate. (So there is no need to print a boarding slip, when you pass through the gate.)

Whereas in Australia (domestic) the BP is checked at the gate, and again as you enter the aircraft. (So you need to show something valid as you walk through the aircraft door.)

This has been my experience as well. On AA anyway!

When NGCI was introduced, it was a CASA requirement for a hard copy of the bp. That's why the little receipt at the boarding gate for the cards and mobile. Unless that has recently changed?

I used ipod QR code, then the girl opens a drawer, I thought what the...
She took out that cardboardy BP out of nowhere.
I was expecting that little slip of paper!

Makes much more sense, apart from any electronic issues. The need to print a paper pass slowed the boarding down considerably in my view.

Definitely "the go" had same on tonight's 882.

What did slow the boarding process was the FA having to squint to read the BP on my phone.

How long before there's a 10min delay because someone is in the wrong seat but can' t be immediately directed to the correct one because they've already turned their phone off??

I understand the restriction is the USE of the phone ( ie talking and texting) The phone can be on, but not used ... This is related to safety as walking on a active area and using a phone do not mix ( like texting and driving)

i find it easy to take the screenshot of my passbook boarding pass, so I can enlarge it when I show FA's they can see the info they need, which is the date/destination/flight number

Yeah, just to clarify, the wording has recently changed at VA. Passengers are now unable to "use" their phone on the tarmac. They may remain on however.

That is the only way they could board at OOL using this process

I thought it was about refuelling operations, like not being permitted to use your phone whilst filling up your car at service stations?
