Apparently there is a new card out with questions about coughography in your luggage, should make for another season of Border Patrol, perhaps an up late version, seems its ruffled a few feathers already. Wonder if there is any other less controversial new questions being asked and how its determined what actually qualifies for a "yes" in the case of the new question, certainly should make for some interesting discussions with customs!

Especially with some honeymoon photos I have seen in recent months.

It always makes me laugh when I read the USA card, and if you tell an American that this question is on the card they do not believe you . it asks if you are a terrorist or intend to engage in and terrorists activities in your time in the USA, and the one about being a naz_ or engaging in naz_ war crimes, how meany people do they get each year who answer that with a yes. :o

Oh my god, I am in serious trouble now! I have an undeclared copy of "National Geographics" featuring naked men and women in Amazons!!! I think Conroy and his Christian mobs are after me now!

Another article:

Don't forget ... flag your cough to Customs | The Australian

So what exactly is the new wording?

Carrying cough across borders is risky anyway as many countries have different laws around what is and what isn't legal. Bringing even some 'mild' material into certain countries could also lead to fines or imprisonment if discovered.

Internet censorship remains part of Conroy's agenda | The Australian

Wasn't on mine Tuesday Morning.

I think the link to the article is incorrect. Instead:

Don't forget ... flag your cough to Customs | The Australian

So what exactly is the new wording?

No its the right link, try the seventh paragraph:

"The Rudd government has been quietly increasing controls on sexual material coming into the country through other means. Anyone coming back to Australia from an overseas trip now has a new question on their incoming passenger card. It asks if you have any coughography in your suitcase. They've also raised the bar for those who bring in more than 25 DVDs that would be refused classification such as a DIY euthanasia film or an adult film where a couple spanks each other; both of which are available on Amazon and YouTube. Yet you can get five years' jail for them now."

I saw the other article but used this one as it mentions the 25 DVDs etc and has the example that I think would make for interesting times ahead at customs!

I wonder if Kim Jong Il is considering moving to Australia. With the best set of communistic laws available anywhere outside of North Korea, he must surely be looking at immigrating to Canberra. The "you cant do this" and the "fun police" in Australia are running wild...

There is a reason they ask those questions, but I'd have to kill you if I told you.

Are you a terrorist? Yes, I mean no, damn I always get that question wrong.

As for asking if cough is in bags, what about cough on computers? and now here is the real tricky one, what if the person doesn't know that the cough is on the computer, for example, the person has browsed to a cough website, and the website has placed a copy of the images on the persons computer without their knowledge.

Gee I love ill-thought out policy on the fly designed to appease a small subset of the community.

Go directly to Guantanamo. Do not go through immigration, do not collect a stamp.

The real problem is when you get to Guantanamo, if you manage to roll a double, they will simply confiscate the dice, and paying the banker $50 to get out also doesn't work in your favour... :(

For the benefit of all AFFers and visitors to Australia, could someone post examples of "allowable coughography" and "illegal ones"? Now, that'd make a good reading/viewing

Usually at Custom area they have big posters of fruit and food with big cross... will there be a similar posters for cough??

Oh, in the Custom House in Melbourne City, there's a glass cabinet with confiscated items... will Custom put confiscated cough on display too?

what about cough on your laptop every man will have a nude photo or two some place on there laptop i mean thats what the internet was made for down loading cough

SMH have now published an article, interestingly they claim the question has been there since Sept 09! There is also a mention about electronic devices, customs are still working out answers it seems:

Travellers to be searched for cough

Who brings back cough on CD’s anymore anyway? Well, apart from the bongs we see on Border Security that is of course!

If I had cough, it’d be in a folder, probably password protected, on my laptop. It wouldn’t be on a CD with a cover showing various images of what is contained on it

Shh... use "Secret Disk" It create an encrypted password protected hidden disk partition. Unless Custom Officers are trained by CIA or Wikileak Founder, otherwise they have no chance in hell in finding anything you don't want them to find.

Sam,

What's the password please.;)

All this rubbish yet still no crackdown on counterfeit products.

What about the pictures of me in the shower looking timid. Is that cough, because it surely should not be veiwed by everyone.

I had this question on my incoming form in Feb 2010. It was IIRC part of question one and there were several things to report with that question. I ticked yes because I had something in that category.

I showed what ever it was and the Customs person asked if I had any cough.

This scenario has already been shown on Border Security where a couple of young men had a heap of stuff and were given the full search. Because they had actually ticked yes to the question they couldn't be fined. One DVD was confiscated after review and the other was returned. The pax complained that the confiscated one was the one he wanted. :p
