On my Explorer card.
No money back to card -> very likely no signal to amex to claw the credit back.
I assume they are validating the offer based on the Level 3 data that the airline sends back to the cards which purchase the tickets - which is why you can see your flight details including ticket number on your amex statement even when you book flights outside of amex travel.
Semi related; I've had credits not post before when billed incorrectly and need to be manually adjusted by submitting a receipt - this suggests that the amex offer system is not that sophisticated and is just a matter of checking if certain words or phrases are present in the transaction. I'd be very surprised if they built a whole new validation system just for these qantas offer
I wonder if someone was to use the split payment method for 2x pax flights at checkout and use two seperate cards with the linked offers - would that work in theory? Or because the same booking ref and itinerary is generated one is rejected. In this case it may be safer to book two seperate bookings and link PNRs after the fact.Interesting idea I just had: I got the same offer (Qantas 800/200 Singapore) on my plat reserve alongside my plat charge.
Now I can’t seem to split a payment over two cards via the website, but I’m debating calling up, booking a full flex ticket, splitting it over my two cards for $400 back, and then cancelling for a flight credit. Does anybody know if qf lets you split payments via multiple cards if you call in?
