New Amex statement credits

Can confirm the Ampol GCs attract a 5% discount....not advertised and not sure how long for. If bought via Shopback (as above) for 6% discount, can only pay via Visa /MC. Can pay via Amex at Ampol station. I prefer physical cards over eGC if bought via Shopback. Highest denomination is $500 but the Ampol station I visited only had $100s and $50s. Ampol Chatswood had none but Ampol Lane Cove had them but had to ask cashier for them. FYi 😀

PS How do you check balance of Ampol GCs?
The one I went to had $25, $50 and $100. The first two were good for a $71.75 spend. I had to ask for them to be retrieved from the cupboard behind the desk

Bought 3x $25 cards to trigger the $70/$10 Amex offer. Came down to $71.25 as others have noted. Staff had no idea about it. Didn’t even realise the register had discounted them and thought it must have been part of the Amex offer (which she evidently did know about).

Ampol offers still trickling in. Today I got the 70/10 offer on 4 cards that didn't get the offer yesterday.

There are currently 2 Dell offers - 1200 / 140 and a 900 / 100. Has anyone received both offers on the one card? I haven't but given the Ampol experience am still very slightly hopeful.

Had the $70/$10 Ampol offer come through on a Sup card. Will be going to buy some more gift cards today it seems.

Can I ask what's the main point in buying GC's over say petrol?
Isn't there an activation fee for these GC's?
Yes on sale/discount atm so does that simply cover the fee & can spend the GC at a later date or are the GC's for any stores etc?
Thanks in advance.

No fee
Largely a way of triggering all the offers by bringing forward Ampol spend (I have 8+ offers to trigger)
I haven't seen any non-Ampol GCs yet

No fee. My petrol tank has a limited capacity whereas buying GCs is locking in a discount on petrol in the future.

Buying the gift cards at a discount allowed me to stack a further discount into the petrol I had to purchase anyway.

I bought the gift cards (5% discount) then went out and put some petrol in the tank, applied a 6c/L discount and then paid with one of the gift cards I had just bought. Had I simply bought the petrol I would have only got the 6c/L discount.

As I'm about to cancel all of my Amex cards and sit out the 18 month exlcusion period, it's all about making the spend now. I can use those cards in the future, but the cashback offer has to be locked in now before I cancel my cards. I can't put 12 x $60 worth of fuel in my card today!

Update on the Ampol offer. Lane Cove (in Sydney) Ampol had plenty of cards today. The unadvertised 5% discount is ongoing. No Amex credit emails though. $75 of future petrol for $51.25 if both credits come through (had 70/10 and 60/10 on same card).

Subscribing to this thread again after some time in the shade. Has there been a supplementary cardholder bonus lately? What time of day is it best to refresh your offers section so as to not miss out on new ones (midnight AEST?)

Edit: I'm a goose. 5000 points for first additional cardholder here: Additional Credit Cards | Additional Card holder | AMEX AU
Anyone know if that limit of one additional cardholder is per account?

So if you have three different Amex cards then can you get 3 x 1 additional cardholder discounts resulting in a 5,000 point addition on each different card account? Such as Gold Amex, Velocity Amex DJ Amex etc?

Thanks for the Lane Cove tip - still plenty of gift cards this morning, incl 5% discount 👍
