New Airport for Toowoomba

not sure why people feel it's going to be a great to BNE when we have two international airports a lot closer with good highway connections, Wellcamp is a very slow long and boring 140km away, perfect for giving Toowoomba and surrounds a proper regional airport.

The answer is in your comment. BNE (which is over capacity) will now have good domestic airports to its SOUTH, NORTH and WEST. Which other Australian city has access to this level of infrastructure? 4 jet service airports within 2 to 3 hours of each other?

I know people in the south of BNE who much prefer to use OOL rather than BNE. In the future when MCY gets bigger, people to the north will have that option. Now people in the West will be able to use Wellcamp (YBWW). If you live in the west, is a much quicker trip, especially when the by pass goes in and the new tunnel is finished, around 1 to 1.25 hours max.

I have taken longer to get to SYD and MEL in traffic from their CBD's..

Qantas will use new Queensland airport
Qantas will be the first airline to use the new Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba.

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman flew into the airport on Wednesday to make the announcement.

The QantasLink will use bombardier Q400s, which can accommodate 74 passengers and fly up 2519km, on its initial routes.

There will be 11 return flights to and from Sydney from November 17.

Qantas will use new Queensland airport

Well thats a good outcome for the private airport owners!

I want to book on the inaugural, but the Qantas website wont let me select the new airport (seems it's not been added to their site completely yet) :(

Considering their ICAO is YBWW and there's no one taking BWW it's a fair chance of being the right code when it gets loaded into applicable systems.

Edit: Although Wikipedia says WTB.

yep, found it in Sabre now, WTB

flight times seem a little bit odd at the moment, although I suppose they are for linking to Asian departures in the morning from sydney. There is a flight leaving Sydney at 0810, into WTB at 0850. Returns to Syd leaving 0935 and in at 1210. The other one leaves Sydney at 17.55 into WTB at 18.35. It then overnights and leaves at 05.20 next day, into Sydney at 07.55. These times are for DST so I would think the 5.20am would be a 6.20am come winter. So, just 2 morning departures down to sydney, but a morning and evening departure going up there.

Looking forward to trying it. Anything has to be better than connecting through Brisbane

Fares have been loaded at last... but I'd go broke if I booked something... I really want to take the first flight, but I also really want to not be hungry over the next week :(

Might just go to the open day at the end of September!

It seems the QF website is having some teething issues. 11hr flight time up to Toowoomba and -8 hours on the return...

Seriously though, at $99 one-way I might even book a flight on this new route.

I noticed the strange flight times! :p

I want to book, but would need to factor in a lengthy drive to Toowoomba and back, or flights to Sydney, and possibly accommodation. It all becomes too much too fast.

Im the same. Had to resist it. Id also need to reschedule my work shifts.

Qantas still having issues with the flight times. (am guessing that WTB has been allocated an incorrect GMT offset).

Also interesting that Qantas has chosen to list the airport as "Toowoomba (Wellcamp)" and not "Brisbane West Wellcamp"

Probably a very good idea. The geographically-challenged may consider BWW to be near Archerfield or Ipswich.

I've booked the first flight out of Sydney on the 17th, going to see anyone else on it? Haven't quite worked out the return flight but probably the 0520 on Tuesday
