Thanks for the report

I will be sure to burn up the 4 x upgrades when the A330 schedule is a bit more guaranteed and the other 1 (or 2) A330s arrive later this year, assuming they don't get shipped off on Asian routes

I have a trip planned for the Queen's Birthday weekend over to Perth ex-Sydney, and made sure that they were A330 flights. It's a semi Status Run, going to see relatives over there, and just booked flexi and used the half price points upgrade to J class. Flights are DJ569 ex-SYD on 8th June, and DJ564 ex-PER on 11th June.

As there are no seatmaps available for me yet, will I know by looking at it which plane I will be on? (Thinking the seat maps might be the same if they block out the middle J seats or something?)

Hoping it will be the new A330, but not overly bothered either way, as I had a very pleasant flight on J class before with one of the ex-Emirates ones. Can't say I was impressed with the lumbar support lump in the Y class on those aircraft though!

I'm thinking of SYD-PER to visit relatives but like a few here, think I will hold off until I have a better chance of getting one of the two new A330s. I wouldn't mind getting one 'old' one and a new one on each leg for the sake of comparison.

Does anybody know when the fifth A330, the third new one, is due to arrive this year?

DJ 830am PER-MEL yesterday (connecting to CBR) - sitting in Y.

Auto allocated front row - according to seat map and at check in at the lounge - but in fact 10A was a windowless window seat and another passenger in 10B.

No passengers in 8A/B, 9 A/B or in fact most of the entire middle row in the entire cabin! Plane was really empty. 4 out of 27 pax in J

Virgin really needs to sought out it seating!

Ended up moving to Row 8 - but IFE boxes on floor below are so big you cannot even fit a small laptop bag under the seat.

Crew seemed as little out of their league - seat belt sign was on (turbulence) at least 6 pax walked to the toilets in that time straight past the FAs.... a number of overhead compartments and cupboard doors we not shut correctly and opened during take off.

I'm new to VA's A330s - Please tell me this is the old one?

As for the Luke Mangan Bacon and Egg Wrap for flexi ticket holders - absolutely revolting.

The enlarged PER Lounge however is a vast improvement and actually a nice place to sit now.

It was an old one if it had 27 seats in J - the new ones have 24 seats/lie flat beds. Also the IFE screens on the new ones are much larger in both J and Y, they are touch enabled and have USB connectivity to put iPad (etc) content onto the screen.

I wonder when more new A330s arrive if they will put the ex-emirates ones primarily on the triangle? It would be a step up over competing 767s.

This is the seat plan that I get for my flight from SYD > PER on 8th June. The return one was the same.

From what I can see, these appear to the the new A330 on both occasions.

I'm thinking this, the aisle seats on the left hand side as C seats. According to the link in the previous post, the ex Emirates A330s aisle seats are B seats, while the new ones are C seats.

Also the middle is only showing two seats but who knows, that mightn't mean anything. Maybe they aren't selling the middle seat, and don't show it on the map anyway.

Interestingly SeatGuru only shows the ex-Emirates aircraft, but these only has three rows of J in the middle instead of 4.

Just re-checked my flights at the end of the week. Up until mid last week it was showing 2 x 2 x 2 - but i was unable to do seat selection for some reason. Looks like they have updated the maps or maybe changed aircraft. New maps are showing 2 x 3 x 2 on the PER to MEL leg, and 2 x 2 x 2 on the return.

So i'm guessing old style on the way there and new style on the return flight.

Question for those who have been on the new planes. Is any seat better than the other?

There is in seat power socket and two USB ports, plus what looked like an AV L/R/V connections - should you happen to have an AV cable on you. There was also some DIN looking connection in the centre console

Sounds similar to what CX has.
Pity no HDMI port which is really becoming the standard nowadays

Have a MEL-SYD on the new A330 coming up soon - can't quite tell what the best seats are for travelling in a couple. I gather from the earlier post that 1A/C and 1H/K are bassinet seats, so not preferable, but there doesn't seem to be anything special about 1D/G compared to all of the others. Hmm.

I wouldn't hesitate going for 1A/C or 1H/K if you want window/aisle with extra legroom (no need to step over travel buddy). But any of the window/aisle seats probably aren't bad. If a window is not important, 1H/K has more legroom.

We may be on the same flight on Saturday - your comment prompted me to check and same thing has happened :(

Just checked my seat maps for tomorrows flight and they've updated to the new layout. So fingers crossed!

All this is making me go back and check the seating map every day... good to see both legs are still showing the new config.

I'm not overly bothered which plane I get though, as I did like the J class the last time on the ex-Emirates one. I would hope that at least one leg is on the new one anyway so that I can experience the new offering. I can't imagine the excellent service being any different.

I was on the new A330 J Per-Syd yesterday. Only 2 spare seats! Was very busy.

Row 1 definitely has the best leg room/personal space. Those of you who know the SQ regional business seat will know that your feet actually go under the seat in front. The seat is actually quite close. The middle two seats on row 1 also look fine.
