My seat map for tomorrow mornings flight changed to the old 332 config :(

Same thing happened to me for SYD-PER-SYD this Saturday. I was really looking forward to trying out their new J product but guess that's not going to happen.

Seems to be that the new A330 config is loaded by default and they switch it over if needed closer to the date.

Finally flew on a new A330 (XFC) from Perth to Melbourne this morning. Much better product then the old Emirates planes.

New config. showing for me next Monday morning Syd to Perth.

Fingers crossed it doesn't change.

Flew Last week new A330's both way XFD & XFE thanks to the fog the day before was supposed to be XFA. Dont know if this is the right thread but the service was outstanding in J ok only 4 on the way over and 14 on the way back. Lucky to have the same crew. They went out pf their way on both sectors and even put in a report as one the whites was appauling. The certinally went a long way to look after each and everyone on board. They impressed me that much I made contact with senior management to ensure the crew were to be congratulated prior to their next flight and it worked as they were my crew back to Sydney. Doing the same trip in a fortnight and cant wait. (redacted)

Flew Syd - Perth return on XFD both ways. Sensational service, great seat comfort.

The little flip up panel on the armrest hides the seat controls, and there is an in-op light switch in there. That's the only thing missing!

This 'regional' business class product would be more than a match for the current Thai or not flat QF Skybed used on long haul.

An article today said (among other things) a330's will operate all SYD/MEL-PER routes by Christmas.

New global routes on radar - The West Australian

That's a lot of new capacity!

Not if it's coupled with a reduction in frequency. Lose a flight a day and bump up the plane size, any lightly loaded 737s on schedule? They might re-jigg the departure times and lose a flight here and there.

Just booking some MEL-PER flights for NOV and seeing Saver $139 Specials. They were $158 on Sale about 3 weeks ago. They still have 3 x 738 flights per day, but may be trying to push the price down to bulk up Pax numbers for the new A330's (and switch aircraft from 738 to A330 when they arrive).

On flightradar I spied XFA back in service after the overhaul in KL, and XFB looks to be heading there as VBH9939. Wonder if they made any changes to the interior...

Lucky enough to be booked in J to fly SYD-PER-SYD end of next month (26-29 sep, both flights scheduled A330s).

Forgive me if this isn't the wrong place, but a couple of questions.

I thought I once saw a thread on what was the best seat in the new / old cabins, but I'm not sure where that is any more. Does anyone have any thoughts/opinions?
The new/old A330s - how many are new, how many are old? XFA/B old, XFC/D/E are new? (What are the odds haha)
Is the most reliable way to tell which variant you're gonna get just the seatmap in the seat selection dialog at T-14 days?

In the old ex EK 332s I have sat in 1A & 2A both with no-one next to me and row 2 has more leg room compared to the bulkhead seat. The seats are very comfortable.
On the new 332s I have only sat in 1A and it was great, tucked away in the corner, again no-one next to me. The new seats are out of this world for a domestic flight.
The service on both flights is of the same very high standard, so either way you do not leave disappointed

You are correct. XFA & XFB are the old EK 332s

Yes, the older planes are 2-3-2 where the new ones are 2-2-2

None that I could detect. Its the same front to back as before.

I was in 1A with nobody next to me on one of the new A330s two weeks ago and it was perfect, although the sunglare east-west meant I couldn't see the TV screen unless the window shutters (mine and the one behind me - luckily there was nobody behind me either - load was 4/24) were closed. Plenty of legroom (I am 184cm and my feet couldn't touch the bulkhead even with the seat in full recline) in row 1.

Sounds excellent Justin!

Out of interest (I assume it's the case) do VA block rows in the J cabin for status pax domestically? As a lowly silver when flying Y I only get to pick from rows after 8, and when flying to LA this year in Y+ there was only a single seat available to choose (in the last row of the cabin).

Either way I'll find out in a couple of weeks I guess!!
