Negative Change of T&C - Charge Card

I got a $22 late fee. I'll be ringing up to have it reversed and then consider what I do in future.

Just checked online and it appears to be no late fee...
the statement is currently being generated and will report again tomorrow.

I may have some bad news, as changes are evident in the statements.

For a Platinum Charge Card, statement issued 5 April 2011 (before the change kicked in), simply had "please ensure your payment reaches us by 19/04/11 to avoid...". With Easter and some slow bank BPay (plus paying it later anyway), payment was received by Amex on 28/04/2011 (but according to BPay regulations, would / should have been treated as being made earlier than that).

No late charges or anything have appeared on the next statement.

Statement issued 04 May 2011, and the wording etc has changed.

Under the summary boxes of charges and payments, is an ominous simple 2 lines
Due Date
May 18, 2011

The message below that has also changed to:
Thank you for using our services. Please ensure your payment reaches us by 18/5/2011 or additional charges may apply.

I am inclined to think this indicates (as previously posted) a change in the system. Particularly ominous is the use of "Due Date" which has never before appeared on the Charge Card statement - now triggering the ability to apply the changed T&Cs.

There is probably a grace period (also previously posted) of 7 days. This is normally included in credit card systems as it is easier than trying to adjust for things like BPay rules, internal glitches where processing runs a day late etc - easier just to give a 7 day grace, but be black and white after that and simply use the day the transaction is processed to the account.

Same, my new statement now has the word "Due Date".

PS: Late fee did not apply for my previous statement.

I called up to complain about my late fee. I hadn't finished befrore the guy apologised and said there was a computer glitch and they would be reversing it automatically.

Not sure whether this is true or they have had a lot of complaints.

At the end I asked him if my payment was on time and he said yes (I paid at about the 25 day mark after the statement).

I had an 'interest charge' applied to my statement received today. When I rang to query it, I was also told that they were aware of the error and it would be automatically reversed within the next few days. Errors are being caused by the new system they have implemented, along with the new look statements.

I wrote in to AMEX to complan about the change. Got a response today from them. Short answer is I can still pay in 'traditional' 21 days and not be charged a fee. I always use to pay around day 19.

Regarding the comments on the recent addition of "Date Due" to the statement I have the same. I can also see it online that it has now a date due there.

Interesting is though I have a Corporate Charge Card as well in addition to the private one and on that one I don't get the "Date Due" indicator online, nor on my statements.

Corporate Cards are treated very differently to Personal ones, far more leniant in applying late payment charges and suspending cards for being overdue as these are huge revenue earners for Amex.

I made an error this month and did an online payment to my account from a bank account that I closed about a month ago

Rang Amex to explain and no worries they will reverse any fees, I did a normal bpay the day after my account was due, now they reversed my payment effor and it says I need to pay my account by 12th of May ??? Even though I did the bpay the day after for the full amount :?:

Oh well will see what happens when I check my account on Monday, and typical that it all goes wrong when my spend was in excess of what my normal pattern was !!!

I got a late payment fee of $21 paying on the day before my statement is issued. I called up and they offered to reverse the fee but the hard cut off date is now 21 days before the fee is charged.

Not a huge deal to me but will at least try and leverage it for a discount in the card renewal fee.

Centurion has 28 days still - called and confirmed. Testing it this month.

Interesting. I asked if this was just for Plat CC (thinking of Gold). I guess they're not going to mention Centurion to the plebs! She took the opportunity to tell me about their credit cards, how they could change my billing cycle etc.

Haven't had any problems yet paying at around 25 days so there seems to be a few days grace in there.

Not much of a problem at the moment as I've moved all my spend to another card to see what marketing bonuses Amex will offer.

Just been catching up on my statements and realised that Amex has charged me 2 x late fees now on my Plat Charge card.

One was around $600 and the other $400 which was 3% of the closing balance.

I paid both statements on about day 25 as per normal.

Will be ringing them tomorrow for a FULL REFUND or I'll be cancelling, and I'll be asking about my $900 Annual Fee which went through about the same time

What a "waste" of $1900 :evil::evil::evil:
