Looking at going to Bali from Mel.

Options are direct to DPS in 737 for 6 hours or via Perth overall travel time extends to 10 hours and the price is an extra $300 but I can comp upgrade the PER leg to business class.

This will be after the introduction of the new seats... Decisions decisions.

Melbourne to Bali via Perth is quite a detour, and it won't even save you money (the opposite, in fact). I guess what it comes down to is; do you value the experience of flying or maximum holiday time in Bali more?

If you do decide to go via Perth, I would suggest checking availability for a comp upgrade before booking - it would suck to book via Perth and then not get the upgrade!

I'm assuming you are travelling solo. I wouldn't dream of recommending you take a family to Bali via Perth.

Just my wife and I although I am not sure how much she would appreciate a detour :)

I already had that nagging feeling in my head about the length of detour.

We actually were looking at the Perth option from Brisbane as I preferred the return flying times for a family of 4. Those midnight departures are a nightmare when travelling with little people. Plus being platinum I had the domestic upgrade option as well. Probably not an issue for you guys though.
