Hi All,

My boss at work is 115SC away from getting SG and wants to get this by the end of Nov (end of his year) as cheap as possible and is also based in ADL. I've already mentioned to him about the option via LA SYD-AKL, or business ADL-SYD-OOL etc, however the cheapest I can get is about $1300 (LA SYD-AKL) which didn't appeal to him. He mentioned he has around 100K in QFF points but would prefer not to use them.

Any simple things I'm missing that would get him to SG for as little money as possible?

1 way J gives lounge access.
Unless boss can find a complimentary QP single entry pass.
ADL SYD AKL is $1016 one way. $399 AKL SYD ADL in discY.
120 SCs and 25 coming back.

Seems like the general cost I found >$1000 matches with all of your suggestions. I can only pass on the info and see what he does!

Many thanks for your assistance.

The other week QF had flights ADL-MEL via Syd in Y for $180 each way. Thats 120sc's for $720.

Otherwise JQ fares to somewhere with the plus bundle can be cheap. If they have another DPS offer for $99 that could be a goer.

I make that $1080; ADL-SYD is 10 SCs, SYD-MEL is 10 SCs; 20 SCs per trip, 6 trips needed = $1080.

Is $1200 worth SG? If your boss travels international a few times a year, then maybe. But the benefits for mainly domestic travel are questionable. And then there is the treadmill of once obtaining a status level (e.g. SG) of retaining it.

Even if it's tax deductible for business it's really not. It's really only good for people who travel often in their preferred cabin. If you fly business most of the time it's not worth it because the J ticket gives you the benefits of status. I think to get the benefit of status you have to be doing lots of Economy flying so you get some perks not usually available with Y. The only other benefit is to get award seats for family - SG and above will have better award availability, and the upgrades are a lottery anyway. Might as well get a $2 lotto ticket.
