Hi.

I have 2 lifemiles redemptions that I was not planning on using because I don't want to take 3 weeks off. I was going to cancel both of them but then thought "why waste an F FRA-SYD on TG". So I looked up flights and can get a SIN-CPH direct J SQ on lifemiles, which would have very little incremental cost due to cancelling my current J SIN-LHR-MUN on lifemiles. I figure I will be out of pocket $75 plus tax differences between the two fares.

Additionally I need to get to SIN and back to PER from SYD so total new costs would be around $500.

I would leave PER on a Wednesday am and return Monday night I think, having maybe 4 days in Europe. I also thought about going to Noma, as bookings haven't yet opened for October and I may get a table. No idea what a hotel would be, but call it $400 a night, so maybe $2k all up without spending money

Is this crazy, should I just cancel and book a real holiday later? A couple of friends say I should just go to Asia somewhere and save the time and money. I have travelled F on CX, EK and MH but never TG.

Thanks!

If you haven't been to CPH before, I think it's worth a visit - especially if you can get into Noma. And the ride itself is sure to be nice.

So why not? Otherwise, pass it over to me to test for you ;):).

I've certainly gone the other way, twice last year briefly visiting Australia. 4-5 days on the ground as a tourist though you might want to over-plan so you don't waste much time. Around Christmas before heading home we wanted a hotel around the Tivoli but CPH Hilton ended up being only $150 / night and a quick metro or train ride saved some hassle for such a short stay. Just make sure you're on LH or SK intra EU in case things go wrong.

Realistically, sure it's a bit silly but that's not why you're asking. Alternatively TG F somewhere closer? Or even better, you haven't flown LH F? They're on of the best. DXB-MUC is often empty ;)

Decided to go for it. SIN-CPH SQ J, FRA-xBKK-SYD TG F. Need to get to SIN and back from a SYD still, but should be fun. Noma bookings open tomorrow!

Good luck! I went to the temporary Tokyo version twice in January and February of this year, and it was quite an experience. I combined the second trip with F flights on JAL and it was only a four-night stay in all so I can certainly see where you're coming from.

Good choice! It's one of those trips where the journey is as fun as the destination ;)

I'm in the middle of planning something similar myself (to Italy). My +1 says it's crazy to fly all the way just for a few days but I say it's not crazy if you fly F :)

How can you book LH F using miles?

Going OT for a moment...

Certainly it has got a lot harder, I gather it's very difficult now for the usual bloggers and US based people desperately wanting their decent transatlantics hence the overall impression. However for me I find the current setup quite good. Transfer Citi or Amex to KF and no trouble just calling up from there. SQ obviously are no LM or USDM for value but that's not the point is it?

LH open up availability 14 days prior, which is about the earliest I ever book anything anyway. ANA shows it quite nicely. It is true however they've significantly reduced F routes. Fortunately for the few Asian routes they cut the likes of CX et al are balancing it out.

LX on the other hand...

So, can book LH/LX F via KF?

I didn't know that, thanks for the info Joshua.

LX is a no go from last year (have to be a M&M elite) but LH yes. I specifically like Europe to North Africa/Middle East – it's the same cost in F and actually cheaper in J than awards just within Europe! e.g. flew recently: LH ARN-MUC-DXB in F for 35k and TK/MS MAD-IST-CAI-DXB for 25k in J. Also did similar with KF in North Asia. Certainly beats paying 24k QFF for ADL-SYD!
