Hi,
I need 215 Qantas Status credits to get to gold but 31 December 2014. I also received a letter to say I qualify for 50% more points if I book/fly before that time. Any ideas? I'm in Sydney and don't really want it to cost any more than around $1000. Any ideas are appreciated. thanks heaps!

So we need to earn 144 status credits assuming we get 50% bonus....

SYD-AKL return in J will earn 160 SCs and at the moment can be had for $1549, if that helps.

Save $100 or so and book two one-ways instead of a return. Might be able to get down to $1300 or so by booking something ex NZ all in J to somewhere like CBR then use Y to NZ. Do your flights have to be QF operated?

yeh, I am thinking I might just try a little harder earlier in the year next year. Problem is, I have a few flights planned and would love the Qantas Club access. I was thinking if I could get some flights around the price of the Membership, I'd prefer a flight included just for fun.

If I was you, I'd give some thought to how much value you think you'll get from QF Gold status before spending big money to get there.

For me, the best benefit of Gold status by far was lounge access, but you can get that for something like $400 (not sure exact cost these days) by paying for Qantas Club membership (domestically at least, and in some circumstances internationally).

IMHO that's a rough guide to what Gold status is worth. I know Gold status also gets some other benefits over and above what you get with Silver plus QC membership, but personally I wouldn't pay a lot of money for those additional benefits (you may of course see it differently though).

BTW, I lost QFF Gold status last year after having it for 3 years, and I can't say I've missed it a whole lot - mind you that's in part due to the fact that I'm travelling more with VA these days.

EDIT: I just saw your more recent post saying it is lounge access you're after, and you're already using the QC membership price as a guide. Sorry for advising you what you were already thinking! Unfortunately, I don't think you can get that number of SCs without spending a lot more money - but perhaps someone will think of a way.
