NC headphones restrictions

If a tail/wing strike occurred you'd notice regardless of wearing headphones. And even if you do assume that, are you saying IFE should be disabled throughout the whole landing/take off in case a situation like this occurs?

You're blowing this way out of proportion

I'm going by what the Airbus briefing advises cabin crew... that they should be on the look out for things such as an abnormal attitude of the aircraft. The Airbus briefing (link earlier in this thread) also points out the statistics for unplanned emergencies.

It would be interesting to see some research on these issues. Only a few years ago it was the case that IFE was turned off, and headsets were required to be off during critical flight stages. I'm not sure what has changed from a safety perspective... other than airlines wanting to offer an additional amenity to their passengers. Cabin crew I have spoken to believe headphones are a potential danger.

I can see we are never going to win this argument. There is always that person who won't swim at the beach because they might get eaten by a shark.
The funny thing is that these people are usually very happy to drive to the beach, which carries a far higher risk of death.
It never ceases to amaze me what trivial things people obsess about

equally you don't know it didn't.

had cabin crew issued a brace command, had passengers reacted, there may have been fewer injuries. I'm not sure if there was any discussion in the accident report on this?

It would not helped the person who dies from Tire tracks on trunk.

Fretting I agree :D

I never denied the fact that there are obviously going to be emergencies. I merely questioned the alleged ban on NC headphones and the effectiveness of that ban.

I know that in the states, as long as you comply with various FAA regulations for IFE, it poses no risk to safety according to their studies. I'm sure there have been similar studies suggesting the same thing in Australia, if IFE did pose a danger it would stay disabled during the critical stages of flight.

The cabin crew aren't safety advisors for QF, they have their own skillset. Leave that to the experts at ATSB and the various other advisors that work internally that are qualified to make these decisions.

Airlines and authorities may have qualified people, but it doesn't mean they turn their mind to the issue, or if they do, consider it properly or put the interests of safety before revenue.

To ignore those who work on board every day seems a potential error of judgement.

I tell you it's because announcements no longer interrupt the IFE.

Announcements do interrupt the IFE it's why I take my tablet on the plane so I don't have to be bombarded.
Emirates is the worst Australia to NZ.
With all of the announcements in dual languages for a a flight that is a couple of hours... It drives me crazy.
Especially when they hold their finger on the button for 20 seconds before they speak.

If they could keep their announcements brief and to the point I wouldn't need my tablet and headphones in the first place.
