"Hi, does anyone familiarity obtaining a Myanmar tourist visa in Thailand? I know that the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok, but I'd rather get the visa now, instead of waiting until the last minute and potentially getting screwed over (as the flights are already booked!) since i'm currently at coughet.
I am also open to doing the visa on arrival via evisaasia.com ...does anyone have experience with this as an alternative? Please advice.

Thanks!"

Hi

I've obtained one at the Mae Sai border crossing in the North of Thailand about 2 years ago. I just got mine at the border, paid some money to a guard at the border crossing and walked across.

It was definitely worth the trip as the shopping in Burma was so much better and cheaper. If I could have one place in the world to go back to, Northern Thailand and the Tachileik area would be it. Imitation goods were cheap and quality was excellent. I still use my bags I got from there today

I believe the visa on arrival has been suspended since the elections last year. You can get a visa in BKK but you need to be there early in the morning and it usually takes 2 days. I think a travel agent in coughet should be able to arrange it for you (for a fee).

A long time ago when I got a Visa, I did it by posting by passport and a form to the Myanmar embassy in Canberra. It worked out well. I have read some unpleasant experiences from people who go in person to the embassy in Bangkok. It seems if you want to do it in Bangkok it is worthwhile to pay a bit extra and get an agent to do it for you.
