My mum recently booked a flight with virgin to bali, and a 1hr 15m stopover in brisbane. I was wondering if that's enough (SYD-BNE-DPS)

It's not impossible, but it's very tight. I would not recommend it, even if mum is able to get around quickly and easily. She might try calling VA and asking to move to an earlier flight from SYD -- there are plenty unless this is the first flight of the day -- especially if she just bought the ticket.

I called them, they said i have to change the whole flight including return and blah blah and said it was enough, but with 4 people in my family it will be hard

Welcome to AFF @G.Y . i hope they can fix it for you. On AFF when dealing with an airline by phone and you don't get a reasonable answer the advice is HUACA. Hang up and call again. May very well get a more knowledgeable agent.

been there, done that. It was around 9:20 pm when i called so i kept getting the same person. They got extremely angry.

I often connect via BNE for the daytime flight to Bali. Personally, I don’t see the need for the concern. It’s always been around 15min from arriving domestic to arriving at the international terminal for me.

My advice is to relax if you’re on one ticket, you have plenty of time. VA don’t tend to board until 20/30 early at BNE Int.

If you had a particularly rude agent, follow up. Otherwise, I’m not sure why you’d expect VA to change your flight without applicable fees.

Is SYD-BNE-DPS all on one e-ticket?
ye, cant change it

Thanks for the advice, it's reasurring to hear from someone who has experience at the exact airport

You can hang up and call again to your heart's content.

But if a single PNR (booking) allows the Minimum Connection Time, they are unlikely to change it without a full fare recalculation based on a voluntary change.

Else, if there are earlier flights available, turn up at the airport in time for them and ask if it's possible to move.

Flights, once under airport control, seem to have a lot more change possibilities.

Make sure that the group wear runners for this. Also they’ll probably get a great adrenalin rush, not knowing whether the doors will close before they get to the gate.

my sister for sure will mess this up, she's gonna find some way to make us miss the flight
and they don't put out bags on the connection so we cant hold the plane back :[]

I wouldn't say it's worst. It's at their hub, it's a frequent connection, it's the same airline, they know you're connecting, and transfer services are every 10 minutes. If the arriving flight actually happens to be late, that's on VA to resolve, and it's plenty of time for the transfer going to plan.

If you'd booked separate tickets so the risk was on you that would be a different matter.

I once had a tight connection of similar time going overseas. It was a booking for 6 people. The ticket wasn’t booked by me and we only noticed when we got to the airport. The check in chick was checking through all the bags and noticed the tight connection time. She told us it’s doable but very risky and we need to be quick (aka run) when we get off the plane or hope the other end is delayed. Luckily for us we were at the airport early and there happened to be an earlier flight that was delayed that she could put us on. So we made it without stressing. 😊

I suggest that you change the title of your post to something like "2023 International Flight Ninja Warrior Challenge".
You either grab this challenge with both hands and celebrate when you are victorious.
Or you can take it as a foundational knowledge in your new career as International Flight Connection Reservation Advice Specialist.

SYD airport VAd should be able to scan your passport into VA's system, so you don't have to do it in BNE.
And SYD VAd should also be able to issue BP for the 4 travellers, thus bypassing having to do it in BNE.
BNE airport (outside VAd's terminal) has the orange bus, that will take you to the BNE int terminal.
If you don't want to wait for the bus, you can get the train, or a taxi, but for an hour an(d) a half, 15 mins, I would just jump into a taxi.
The plane hold bags would have been dropped off in SYD, and does not need to be picked up by the pax in BNE going out of Aust, but does have to picked up by the pax on the way back, ie at BNE int customs.
There is no VAi lounge in BNE anymore anyway, so hope it all goes ok.
And yes, I have flow int out of BNE before.

What I think is critical here is to have contingencies if you do misconnect. And look I've had multi-hour domestic connections blown due to a late departing aircraft. Don't be stressed, just be prepared. Remember too that tougher international laws protect your entire trip (namely Montreal Convention, 1999) which means if you were to misconnect, not only would Virgin be on the hook for booking you a hotel, but they would have to reimburse you for related expenses incurred by not making that connecting flight. For instance, if you lost a day at a hotel in Bali, well they'll have to cover whatever you paid for that night.

SYD airport VAd should be able to scan your passport into VA's system, so you don't have to do it in BNE.
I can confirm this as well. Back in April I was flying from Sydney to Zurich, Switzerland with the first flight operated by Virgin Australia. A quick passport check and I received all three boarding passes (SYD > MEL , MEL > AUH, AUH > ZRH) and had my bags checked through to ZRH.
