I've been trying to find a way to Europe return in July which doesn't invoke too much pain, and Premium Economy is costing more than the (admittedly cheap) J flights we had in 2018.

So ... a bit of research seems to say that we can do daytime TG flights both SYD-BKK & BKK-SYD, and they even line-up fairly reasonably at BKK with connecting TG flights to/from FRA. So it looks as though maybe doing Y Sydney <==> Bangkok, then J for the overnight legs Bangkok <==> Frankfurt may even come out a little cheaper than Premium Economy the whole way with just about any airline.

Which raises a few questions ...
(*) the TG site won't let me book multi-cabin-class flights like that in a single booking, unlike others you can't do a multi-city where each leg has a different cabin-class ... can I book 2-3 separate flights online & get everything combined later on, such that we can check luggage at one end & it'll go through all the way?
(*) if I'm being quoted in THB on their site for a flight, will it magically get much more expensive when I go to pay for it somehow?
(*) is it better not to make all these disparate bookings online, but instead call them?
(*) is (pre-)paid access at US$55 to the Miracle First Class Lounge (or any other with showers) worthwhile between flights at BKK - assuming that getting off a J flight with the next flight being Y wouldn't allow us into the TH J lounge?

This is a scenario that's better handled by a travel agent who can do it all in one booking so that you are handled as a through passenger.

The only one anywhere near me is Flight Centre, so I’d kinda been avoiding that thought. :)

If I know what flights I want, is the reason to go with a travel agent just because it’s easier to describe in person than over the ‘phone direct to TG?

You could do worse than use @madrooster as your TA

Thanks @VPS I wasn't even aware @madrooster was a TA ... madrooster I'll flick you a private message when my better-half confirms the dates for me (I think she needs to confirm/coordinate with her brother who'll be travelling separately so ain't my problem :)).
