Similar to recent United deal, the Virgin America/Alaska merger has thrown open an interesting opportunity. (HT: OMAAT)

40K Amex MR = 20K SPG = 25K Virgin America (1:1 but 5K bonus on 20K transfer) = 32500 Alaska miles (1:1.3)

Could be a tempting offer.

You can do say SIN - TOK - BKK for 25K with Alaskan via the free stopover

I'm looking at SIN - TOK then KIX - BKK for 25K on JAL via Alaskan. seems they consider it a stopover even with the different arrival departue in japan.

JAL is just 70K for F Asia to USA.
