Hi sonny82,

Welcome to AFF. :D

Qantas are not known for giving status matches.

You could ask Virgin Australia to do a status match as per my link. Be aware we do not know how long the status match offer will run for so get in quick.

Also look at this AFF Thread about the Virgin Status Match.

Definitely check out the links straitman gave.

Why don't you want to continue to credit flights to BA?

Or Just start crediting to QF if that is what you want to do, but use your BA card to give you access to the lounge and the other OWS benefits?

If you fly a lot you may get to OWS with QF anyway. Just a thought.

from memory I think Gold on BA = OWE

If you're sticking with oneworld - it would make sense to open a QFF account if you haven't already (making sure you do so via Woolworths to avoid any membership fees), then credit your flights to QFF while using your BA Gold card to obtain bennies.

Some things to consider between continuing to credit to BA or switching to QF:

To keep your BA Gold status you will need 4 sectors on a BA marketed flight - QF will count for Tier Points but not for eligible sectors.
If you fly domestically a lot in Australia, not all fares will count for BA tier points, and many miles flown will credit at 25%.
You wont receive any status bonus points for flights on QF, as you would for BA, IB, or AA.

Whereas:
With QF you will get 1000 mile minimum for all flights
Renewal of QF Plat is easier than renewal of BA Gold

You will need to weigh the redemption value of miles between the two programs for yourself, though.

I'd still recommend matching your BA Gold to VA Plat while you have the chance.
