Move to Sabre - what can we expect to see improved?

I think we shouldn't get too carried away.

I've got a feeling when the transition first happens, it'll be a few steps backwards, then slowly improving and adding new features through 2013.

I think you are spot on …. Few little things will be better …. A few things worse…. With improvements later next year

You can expect a change in flight numbers from a DJ prefix to a VA prefix.

A slightly modified fare structure is coming with the move. Bags included on Saver, but not on the new Saver Lite.

Does this mean we will finally be able to book flights from non-east coast Australia to any US city served by partner airlines? I'm getting tired of having to book ADL-east coast and then east coast-DTW separately!

That's really just the website rather than the underlying booking engine at fault: I can price out ADL-DTW on VA on Expedia, so the fare exists. If you haven't already done so, perhaps contact VA to ask why you can't book ADL-DTW on the website?

Have the same issue with ex PER flights. Able to find flights PER - SYD, then SYD - pretty much anywhere. But searching from PER - pretty much anywhere results in no flights available. Really a pain when trying to find available flights (especially rewards flights!)

Just for a laugh - and it is pretty funny - I thought I'd summarize these comments made pre Jan 15 in this thread - looks like quite a few of us got it wrong answering this question with a few notable exceptions!

Ozmark: “There are things that will change pretty much from day one, while others will probably come over time” and “I would also expect it will be easier (less clunky) to look up bookings in the Velocity website.”

Lazbones1987: “Yup. Retrieving bookings made on VA's partners, claiming points will become easier.”

KCMil
: “MEL lounge mgr explained that not all functionality is being switched on at once. Over Jan / Feb aspects will be introduced and bedded in”

Me (eastwest101):
1. Upgrade with points online
2. Proper accurate seat maps
3. Integration with Velocity so you don't have to re-enter your password every time you want to do something
4. System stability and less crashes
5. Maybe seat selection and even point redemption online for VA partners like DL NZ & EY ?

Major: At the very least I hope you are able to see your long haul bookings. They currently do not appear on the Velocity site”

LiamR: “I think we shouldn't get too carried away.” And “I've got a feeling when the transition first happens, it'll be a few steps backwards, then slowly improving and adding new features through 2013.”

Well, I was wrong - it was even more clunky

So LiamR is the fortune teller.

Perhaps Liam could consult his crystal ball and tell us when the "few steps backwards" are likely to finish.

One thing which is becoming clear with VA, is they don't like to rush things......ife, years, J class, a year and counting, sabre,.........?????

The old addage, "I may be slow, but by cripes I'm rough" seems to be VAs motto of late.

Hopefully we're not talking years like the ife for this Sabre "staged" roll-out!

Thank you! I've been waiting for somebody remind me just how awesome I am. :D

They don't like to rush things? I get the impression Sabre was very rushed, that's why there is so many bugs and a lot of features are incomplete!
