Mostly happy with the outcome

I guess I have been a bit lucky with my refunds and such.

When the first signs of lockdowns started to occur, I had return 2 x J flights to HKG for the Cantong Fair - these were deeply discounted QF J's and it did take quite a few messages to QF's twitter team to get the refunds through especially as QF at that stage were still flying to HKG. I was able to prove I have pre-purchased transfers to Shekou then onto mainland China which by that stage was under travel ban.

Next I cancelled 2 return redemption J flights to LAX on QF. This turned out a nightmare getting the 6K refund per cancellation returned, but happy to say, again the twitter team came to my rescue and fixed the problem.

I had then a LAX/LAS F flight booked through Expedia - I got the record locator then contacted AA. As the time of this flight had been changed some months back, I was issued an operator refund. I then cancelled: LAS/JKF, JFK/MSY, MSY/HOU and IAH/LAX. Then the crazy AA register for a refund for each PAX on each leg - you quickly start to lose the will to live, however, that was done, and over the next 6-7 weeks, all the AA flights were refunded. Unfortunately didn't make a cent in FOREX :O

Finally came the hotels... Primarily Hilton properties and 3 stays were APs. All were refunded over the phone without a hitch. The only a-holes have been the Hyatt in New Orleans who have through their 3rd party RCI have refused to refund my timeshare weeks as well as the $500 odd USD payment I also made.

My total loss over this period to do with international travel has been the Hyatt, so I'm not whinging too much. I did pay for the Hyatt on my HSBC Platinum card as well as having annual travel insurance, so I may head down that path soon, but I'll see. I'm feeling a little depressed with the whole lockdown situation, so dealing with RCI/Hyatt will probably drive me to drink which I successfully gave up at about 2130 last night.
