Most Obscure Commercial Airline That You have Flown

I flew with Pluna (was the national airline of Uruguay) MAD-GIG on their 763 (I think their only aircraft which could do the trans-Atlantic crossing at the time) back in February 2006. My first long-haul flight, and first time leaving Europe.

I remember MAD airport being insanely busy and coughpy.

We were seated in the emergency exit row, and I remember service being fantastic - I think because we were some of the few (if only) non-Spanish speaking passengers on the plane, and the announcements (bar the safely briefing) weren't in English, so we were personally checked up on and given flight updates by the cabin crew.

I also remember salt and pepper shakers from the galley rolling down the aisle during take-off (along with the contents of my broken seat-back pocket falling out), and the projected movie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) being shown in various shades of purple in our section of the cabin due to one of the RGB connections/lamps being broken.

Most of the in-flight equipment (trolleys etc) were branded Varig.

In 1992, I flew MarkAir from Fairbanks to Seattle via Kodiak. Many of the passengers were hunters in full gear, while the flight crew cracked jokes during the safety announcements and served what seemed to be delivery pizza.

The airline went out of business in 1995.

Hope you avoided the bears.

Well since we've already strayed off topic ;), I'll add that I was once seated on QF12, next to two ladies from Kodiak. Just prior to landing, they realised they had no writing implement to fill out the arrivals card, so being the perfect gentleman (o_O), I offered them my "Biro". With a startled look they said "I beg your pardon", to which I replied "would you like to borrow my pen".

"Oh" they laughed, "yes please, but what did you say originally"? I responded that I had asked if they wanted to borrow a biro. They then chuckled to themselves and informed me the word biro in the Kodiak lingo meant something entirely different. To this day, I don't know what it means, so if anyone knows, please share so I can decide how foolish/rude/ignorant I must have first appeared!

I once sat in on a "commercial" delivery run..
Hollywood rocked up in his new Chev Impala , said wanna come for a ride ?
Grab the beer out of the back and put it in the plane while I untie it.
We were soon airborne heading for a huge pall of smoke.
He said these firies do a great job back burning so I am taking them a drink.
We landed in a burned out paddock , delivered the welcome drinkies and flew back home.
The "Airliner" was a Piper tri Pacer………

Rebel Air with Capt. Billy Pike (ex 747 pilot) Syd/Mel/Syd in DC3 day trip to Aust GP years ago, and did we drink some!.

No Bill the Pilot stayed sober and watched a bunch of us get .....ed, two months later 10 of us went on the Rebel Air DC3 again to the Hunter Valley from Mascot one Sunday, don't really remember much about it after noon, my wife said I bought a Dozen bottles at one of the wineries carted em back to the plane, to a mates party on the way home was "only "4" floors and no lift!, then home to our Maroubra Beach pad, and of course I dropped them on the road once out of the cab, probably the reason only one sat in my bar fridge, oh them were the crazy days...
