More than 900 Australians died overseas last year

Wonder if it includes all Australian citizens who die overseas rather than permanent Australian residents temporarily overseas?

If the former then it may be arguable that the figures are inflated because many of them may have dual citizenship and living in their country of birth etc as a local.

Oh and is 800 really that high as a percentage of the total number of Australian who travel overseas per annum?

111 deaths in Thailand... whoa...

I think these articles make great headlines but when you consider the vast numbers of aussie's traveling os and to Thailand in particular it is hardly surprising a good number die. these figures include people who would have died whether they were home or not from heart attacks etc

Also there a quite a number of older Australians who return to their country of birth to live their 'remaining years'.

And 900 deaths out of 20-odd million people is not a large ratio.
