It seems to me that when I was a Platinum QFF for years and years I had oodles of redemption flight options availability. Now that I am finally reduced to Bronze and my QC has also just expired (I think I'll renew...) I seem to have a lot less flights to choose from.

I also know that if you call up Qantas to book a redemption flight, and pay the 3500points booking fee, you also get much greater flexibility and more options with flights then when booking over the wobblyweb Classic Redemption Booking interface.

Does anyone know if this is all true or just my imagination?

Yes this is true.

Status FF customers have more seats to choose from than Bronze (or lower status ones).

Silver FF are supposed to have more than Bronze - not sure how noticeable. It is much more noticeable at Gold and even more at Platinum (the latter especially on premium class seats).

It is written as a benefit somewhere in the FF program, though it is general in nature (i.e. Platinums etc. do get more Classic seats, but we're not told just how many more or which ones).

Platinums (at least) can also call to request Classic award seats to be released for them (the request is based on yield management, so not always successful, but the ability to do so can be worthwhile).

As far as I can tell, Qantas Club membership has no effect.
