The three examples quoted are pretty 'out there' and considering there are a large number of elite flyers that don't even pre-allocate seats when they can & leave it up to their PA or wife to do it, I don't expect to see droves of people doing any of the scenarios in the article any time soon. I thought that young bloke in ADL who had a penchant for cat food & taco seasoning might've got a look in.

I thought that's what the last was about until I read further...

Dislike it when tips and tricks (particularly the very lucrative ones) get spread around like this.

Forums are open. Journalists (and others) are free to peruse and suck up any information they choose.

I was complaining last night elsewhere that a journalist directly quoted a forum post of mine relating to my professional life. It wasn't a bad quote... And the comment was correct. But really was a touch embarrassing.

Anything published on a public forum is freely available for others to review... If you don't want that, well not posting content in the first place is a good start!

Oh, I know my view is more than hypocritical!

I would just rather it be left to those who take hours upon hours, days upon days, years upon years to learn and discover the tricks and tips....rather than be offered them on a plate on an ozBargain posting or news article.

SMH, OzBargain... one in the same really :)

All three of those lurks have been shut down. The pudding guy was a very long time ago and in a different country.

I'd say that David is doing us a service, by directing people with an interest in such things here. They may bring new ideas. Hopefully without broadcasting fresh lurks to the masses. That XS/AP thing was a nice little earner for a while, but clearly too many people were abusing it and talking about it here for it to continue.

How is it spreading around lucrative tips and tricks when all of the ones mentioned by David are no longer valid and aren't exactly state secrets or known only to members of AFF or FT?

I thought it was a good article.

I agree, it was accurate, named sources and resources without throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Anthony's use of the NAB loophole is nothing compared to what some of us netted from the Amex promo a few years ago. It's also something we realised very very quickly; bill splitting is verboten. Amex clearly stated that, although of course the lack of capping on the promo was their undoing.

I have no idea if NAB had the 'no bill splitting' clause, but it sounds like they didn't.
