As Sydney house prices rise and traffic congestion worsens, some enterprising workers are moving north to seek the lifestyle they want in Queensland while continuing their careers in NSW.
Belinda Kerr and Michael Trehy discovered the best of both worlds after moving in January from Killarney Heights in Sydney's northern suburbs to Kiels Mountain near Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Each Tuesday Ms Kerr flies to Sydney for two days to run her recruitment company from its Surry Hills office, leaving her husband to care for their eight-year-old twins Molly and Ivy. She works from home on Mondays and Fridays.

the weekly budget seems a little tight!

What does she do on Thursday?

My take:
She flies out on Tuesday night, staying in SYD Tue and Wed nights. Then works in SYD Wed and Thu, before flying back Thu night.

Re budget - Great flight and hotel prices ;) Also, getting to the airport doesn't seem to be listed, and the food costs etc look to be low.

Her budget is actually a little over what can be achieved, but accurate enough if averaged out. I presume the family drop off and pick her up at the airport being on the sunny coast.

She's probably on a 5-2 diet. ;)

Jokes aside, budget looks very tight. How does she commute between her office (assume in CBD or inner suburbs) and the $120/night accommodation (assume this can't be close to the city given the low cost)? Or it is low quality, well who knows.

FWIW I can walk to the city in twenty minutes from my normal hotel where I pay 80-100 a night, and its 4 star earning points.

All of the costs seem about right. I average $110 a night at a hotel within 15 minutes walk of surry hills. Not a low quality hotel at all, even if it isn't a name brand hotel.

I've averaged $130 a week in extra costs, including airport train $30 and ADL parking ($70). Add to that frozen leftovers for dinner, $10-$15 for lunch makings, and if really wanting to cut down instant noodles. Also in that $130 average are things like trivia night costs and semi-regular pub meals to break up the noodles/stuff from home. Consider I'm away 3 nights and 4 days. 2 nights away would really slash meal costs.
