Mixing economy and first class + stopover

Hi all,

I'm looking to maximise my point redemptions with KrisFlyer with 120k worth of points.

I don't have enough for a return business class so i was thinking:

• Redeem economy flight for SYD - LHR (36125 points w/ discount)
• Redeem business class for LHR - SYD (80750 points w/ discount)

If i book the above will i be eligible for the free stopover trip on the flight to SYD (SYD - SIN - LHR)? I was thinking that the stopover in singapore will make the trip more comfortable and allow the Singapore stopover holiday.

Free stopover is only for return flights booked on the same itinerary as far as I am aware but you can add a stopover for $100 USD on a one way redemption.

How soon do you need to book?

If it was me I would look at taking up a CC bonus offer to get the extra miles you need to be in J all of the way SYD-LHR.

For example using a referral link you could get 80,000 VA points which = 59,259 KF which added to your 120,000 existing KF points would give you enough for the 161,500 required for SYD-SIN-LHR with a free stop over. Amex are usually pretty quick with posting the points once you hit the spend requirement.

If that is not an option but you could get your hands on an additional 16,000 KF points then you could book revenue Y from SYD-SIN return and a J redemption from SIN-LHR this would give you a stopover and you could book the J redemption as 2 one ways to increase your flexibility to create an open jaw.

To get the extra 16,000 KF miles you can buy star points from SPG which convert to KF miles, star points transfer at 1:1 with a bonus 5,000 if you transfer 20,000 in once transaction. The maximum you can buy in a year is 20,000 points.

KF will allow you to purchase miles to top up your account and make a redemption but I am not sure what the threshold is.

Another thing to consider is the high UK departure tax ($400AUD approx in a premium cabin), depending on your schedule it may be beneficial to arrive in LHR but depart from CDG,ZUR or FRA.

I prefer not to get another credit card as i am looking to keep my credit file as average as possible in the event i'm looking for a loan.

The extra 16k is definitely achievable and might be something to look at.

I also called the Krisflyer desk and they confirmed that as long as it is a round-trip on the same itinerary then i should be able to get a stopover. I'll be able to book the economy flight to LHR with the stopover and then a Business class on the way back.

Just a heads up if you get a loan through a mortgage broker you can really bypass the stringent credit check from the banks. I had applied and got approved for a home loan even though my credit score was in the 560 mark. So yeah, there are ways around it and beside mortgage brokers usually get you a better rate than what the banks can offer. Let me know if you need a referral as well.
